I won $70 USD in a sales incentive "Spin to Win" promotion at work. I could have taken it from Bed Bath and Beyond but decided that Amazon was more my speed. So. I haven't bought any new books on the AWI in years. With my previous winnings I bought the new book on Monmouth Courthouse that all the Cool Kids on the AWI board have been raving about. It will be here Monday. As will Seasons 8 & 9 of 24. What book should I get next? (I'm so Old School I still think Amazon is only books and DVDs. Do they sell any figures?) |

I just bought the book and am reading "Washington's Immortals" by but you know a lot more about the AWI than I do, so whatever you think best. Just before that, I read "The Whirlwind" by John Fehrling which I enjoyed and learned a lot from, but again you are much more knowledgeable regarding the AWI… It is tough, but if you weren't saddled with it someone else would be, so just do the best you can. |

I highly recommend this one: link He did years of primary research for it. Clears away a lot of encrusted legends. I assume you already have Fischer's Washington's Crossing. If not,get it. |

"Grand Forage 1778" by Todd Braistead. Anything (you don't already have) by Gavin Watt. |

If you don't have "Road to Guilford Courthouse" by John Buchanan, I'd recommend it if you wanted to move South with your AWI collection. link Also, don't know what scale you game but if you're into 15mm, Brookhurst Hobbies still has their Peter Pig AWI figures on sale: link PIG&SD=RANGE 05 – AMERICAN WAR OF INDEPENDENCE |

I second the Luzader "Saratoga" recommendation. It is a great book, well researched and presented. I understand the campaign better than any other now. |

Based on your other post about The Man in the High Castle, put it towards an Amazon Prime membership. It's the best money I spend all year. |

John Try "True For The Cause Of Liberty" by the Gilberts. It's an account of the back country civil war between Whigs and Torries in the AWI. Mostly taken from pension applications and first hand accounts of many of the battles. The book focuses on the Scotch-Irish in the South, with most of it detailing the two Spartan regiments and the Little River Regiment. It seems that these regiments fought in every major engagement in the South. If not, then "The Road To Guilford Courthouse" is the best book on the AWI that I have read, so far. |

If you fancy something a bit different then 'Lafayette in the Somewhat United States' is a very interesting and amusing read. link "Vowell wanders through the history of the American Revolution and its immediate aftermath, using Lafayette's involvement in the war as a map, and bringing us all along in her perambulations…Her prose sparkles."— The New York Times Book Review |

Lafayette always reminded me of hippies going to Cuba to cut sugar cane for Fidel. Thanks for a lot of good ideas. |

Jim, I didn't find Fife and Drum on the list of vendors giving these gift certificates. Unless you are on Amazon or Bed Bath and Beyond. |
