Just to let everyone know that unfortunately been caught out in the biggest fall of snow in Sicily for many a year and are stranded and unable to get to the airport so will not be back till Wednesday 11th. Normal service will resume at some point!

Sounds like an excuse to find a nice restaurant and settle in for the afternoon

Snow…in Sicily…..I cannot imagine too many municipal snow ploughs and gritters….and who can blame them?

5Kms from any source of sustenance! What part of Sicily are you in?

While I have a captive audience, are your Russian Napoleonic artillery caissons two-wheeled or four?

Grab a bottle of "Fire of Etna" and make some coffee and have a little of both. I spent some time in Sig back in the 70's, tracking the Russkies and keeping an eye of the Libyans.

Except for the sand fleas and other nagging pests, it was a nice place to be. Glad you are enjoying it.

Your right Deadhead they not equipped to cope………certainly judging from the pile up on the Catania bit of the autostrada…….
We are in the mountains just behind Cefalu, last stop of a min tour around the island. Up until 2 days ago it was 16-20 degrees and all day sunshine.
Hope to 'get out' of the national park here on Monday first flight out is Tuesday.

jeffreyw3 the heavy is 4 wheeled and the light one 2 wheeled.

TKindred think its the driving over here thats the biggest menace………….completely mad! Thought Rome bad……..phew. Then again from the sound of your 'Fire of Etna' recc that could explain it.

You're in Catania? Ohh man, I love Catania. I used to date a girl from there, spent a few months there doing nothing but walking around and eating arancinos and swimming in a lagoon. My favorite city in the world.

EDIT: Or are you in Cefalu?

EDIT 2: I see, you're in the mountains around Cefalu. Beautiful mountains up there… I wouldn't want to be caught in a snow storm. Hopefully you can find some good grappa to help keep warm.

Well Cefalu looks like an unlikely but wonderful place to be snowed in……I'd swap with you right now! Enjoy it while you can…..Happy New Year

-2C feeling like -6C tonight, bet you are really pleased you went for some winter sunshine! Here in Herefordshire we are basking in 6C overnight up to the heights of 9 tomorrow and haven't seen a snowflake for over a year.
At least you will have some decent coffee.

Wow, snow in Sicily; I'm confused, do we blame Global Warming or Climate Change? :)

A case of bad timing? But on the bright side, what a place to be stuck in and it will make an interesting conversion piece-'I was once stranded by snow in Sicily.' No one will believe you.

And, considering it is wet and miserable over here in the UK at the moment, I think there would be many who would quite happily swop places with you, so stop moaning, go and make a snowman and send a pic.

Best excuse for missing a commitment I ever had was "a tornado has just gone through our village and I need to check out the damage."

I live on the Lancashire coast, NW England.

And the excuse was true.

Better snowed in there than snowed in at home, because then you'd HAVE to get something done on the "honey-do" list rather than the minis list!

Safe travels my friend!
