"Modular River Tutorial" Topic

Forgot to crosspost my flexible river tutorial to the terrain board…of course. Thought someone might find it useful!

I have made several similar ones. I like your idea of the canvas. Main difference is I use clear calk mixed with different colors of powdered rit dye.
A lot more work than your method of painting the riverbed first. I will try your method next time I make. A river again.

Nice work and nice, clear video explaining your work. The only question/issue I might have is with the upward curling of the "river bank" edges. Are you able to get them to lay flatter? Would a coat of caulk on the reverse side of the edges help to counter that curling?

I actually ended up using duct tape to help hold down the curling edges, the caulk also makes the river quite bendable and it often holds its shape for quite some time. Thanks for watching!

Notwithstanding your comment about using duct tape, I think there may be difficulties keeping the river flat, particularly over time. I would very interested to hear your comments on this issue after using it in a game or two.

I used the transparent caulk to make my battle mat – colouring it brown so the mat is just caulk and flock. I found that when the mat was rolled and stored the ends wouldn't stop curling, so I added a think layer of caulk to the other side and that makes a lot of difference. I have been diluting the caulk with water

I found that the transparent caulk stays sticky for ages – probably needs a spray of dilute wood glue to seal it. That's what I did with the mat.

I also made some roads using these techniques and they came out very well. I coated the back before doing anything else and there isn't much curl

I think your technique of painting white caulk and wet blending is fantastic. I'm definitely going to use your techniques for rivers

I will definitely have to try putting some caulk on the backside as several has suggested to stop the curling, great idea! Also using this technique for roads is something I will have to try.
