15 or 28mm, fantasy or sci fi, what's missing or what would you like to see dwarf, squat, or gnome wise?

Mardaddy05 Jan 2017 10:11 p.m. PST

You might have the wrong board.

Squats

With very limited options for Space Dwarfs out there, it is always a welcome sight to see more.

28mm would be my preference. I'd also prefer a 'hard sci-fi' look rather than GW Squat rip-offs.

The Grymn (from Hasslefree Miniatures) are excellent and are more towards the hard sci-fi end of the market but even they could do with more complex kit.

I like the more realistic proportioned Grymn but also think that there is a place for proper GW style Squat physiques as well.

It would probably be prudent to have 'counts as' versions of GW Imperial weapons (eg. Melta, plasma, flamer, bolter etc…) rather than rail guns and the like.

There are definitely holes in the market and if you get the style right, you will make a mint from the Squat loving crowd.

Out of interest, Bill, why was this removed from the 40k board?*

Just curious…

* Subsidiary question your honour, is the 40k board just for the current iteration of the rules?

Me? 28mm GW Squat clones. I can understand the appeal of different styles, but I'd always rather have a full range in one style than bits in four, and the GW Squat is the classic--and the consensus.

Castings? Any full range includes standard infantry with command, a heavier anti-personnel weapon, a heavier anti-armor weapon and an indirect fire weapon. Vehicles should include slow and heavy, light and fast and a personnel carrier. Other stuff is fun, but if you've got that, you're good for a great many scenarios. (A few civilians to guard or rescue would probably be next on the list.)

Dead ones! wink

Might want to make some with hands with just weapon grips so people could add the 'style' of guns they want (after all, who doesn't have lots of loose weapons bits lying around… ;-)

How about some heavy gravity aliens instead? Small, squat, powerful physique but maybe reptilian in form?

I like the old GW squats. I've only painted about 20 or so, but I've got enough to make a good sized force. Are you considering producing a range?

I've sampled a few different ranges, but the most useful ones so far have been the BTD/Harlequin Space Dwarves because though a few weapons swaps are necessary, they fit in stylistically and size wise. I have all I need, but unfortunately they seem to be OOP now.

The modularity of the few space dwarf items that Ramshackle Games makes is nice and though the sculpts are a bit rough, they generally seem to go well with Squats in style and size.

Just a hint for anyone needing lasguns for old squats, the Victoria Miniatures lasguns are nicely downsized and about the same size as the old GW lasguns. Reasonably affordable too.

Here's how they compare to the originals.

Jim,
Ramshackle just did a load of Squat bikes you might be interested in.

I sculpted this up a while back for a space dwarf type concept vehicle:
