Oh good stuff. The bottom panel of the Justinian image at 2, are we seeing Goths, Persians, Africans and Indians? Also who is the gal beneath the hooves with, I think, a cornocopia representing? I presume that is Nike with the wings. |

The bottom panel of the Justinian image at 2, are we seeing Goths, Persians, Africans and Indians? It has been suggested that the bottom left 2 figures, and the one behind Justinian, may be Germans in the Roman army – with decoration on tunics and trousers. 2 Indians to the right. The woman below the horse may personify 'Earth'. Druzhina 6th Century Illustrations of Costume & Soldiers |

I'm thinking tribute bearers and that we are intended to read this as due to Nike's favour, ie victories, Justinian strides the earth and receives tribute from its peoples. Just a thought and I could be wrong about Nike perhaps it is an angel Justinian being a Christian Emperor. |

I think that is a pretty good interpretation. |
