If Tango posted just a bit less and used that spare time garnered to read other people's posts* (to avoid the repetition he suffers from), it would up the quality of what he then does produce which, very often, I find quite interesting and valuable.

I know Stalin said that "quantity has a quality all of its own" (or something similar) but a change in approach from Raul would pretty much kick any criticisms of his 'click-bait' approach to posting right in the teeth.

I have asked him to look in to moderating his approach many times (as have lots of other folks, I know) but it seems to have little effect: there's a wonderful quote from Breaking Bad said by the Saul Goodman character: "Some people are immune to good advice".

Perhaps Tango/Armand/Raul might use his time in the DH to reflect upon all of that, though – on past performance – I accept that seems unlikely.

John T

* And even remember his own posts: he has repeated himself more than once

Hafen von Schlockenberg06 Jan 2017 8:52 a.m. PST

The repetition HE suffers from? I doubt it causes him any suffering at all.

No,it's the rest of us. . .

15th Hussar06 Jan 2017 9:18 a.m. PST

Yeah, the repitition drives me looney bins too, but he posts enough good junque to just enough…eh make up for it!

Marc the plastics fan06 Jan 2017 10:50 a.m. PST

Yeah JT. Like we all listen to what other people want…

I like his posts and I will await his return

zoneofcontrol06 Jan 2017 2:13 p.m. PST

Always have great fun reading about people complaining about other people posting wargame related stuff to a wargame site.

My life is much more complete knowing your feelings on what people are posting or reposting to TMP. It is surely a gift to the ages.

Mako1106 Jan 2017 3:41 p.m. PST

Who is going to step up to the plate to keep us up to date on ALL the current military events going on in the world, not to mention military weapons development news?

He's like the "Jane's" of TMP, and I certainly can't afford even a day's worth of a subscription with them, at the lofty rates they charge.

Free Tango!

TMP is going to suffer a mighty low-point in user clicks while he's in the DogHaus, which could adversely affect membership and advertising.

Patonius06 Jan 2017 5:37 p.m. PST

I'm TANGO01!!!!

Tango0106 Jan 2017 8:53 p.m. PST

I must thank your interest my dear friends, for this poor fellow member who punishes you day by day with his permanent search of material related to our hobby, history and the world today.

My prison days have a single responsible person: I myself! … I knew that I was taking the risk … I assumed it… and I paid the consequences … nothing more than that.

But this short time allowed me to analyze one of the criticisms (the most recent of course, if I analyze them all I would need several lives (smile)) … I read/hear about my participation in TMP … and I did it to Consciousness … thread by thread for the last seven months … and the result was that the "repetitions" of my threads increased in that time period to exactly … eleven! … effectively … eleven times my threads were Duplicates … and for this I ask for the pertinent apologies … although I also dare to observe that in that period my threads amounted to 7,980 … which statistically tells us that 0,00013784% are repetitions … this Is … in my opinion …. practically nothing! … I think it is a respectable minimum of errors that do not tarnish the final result …

And I have taken this work to the sole effect because there are people like dear John T. that I consider and admire as very valuable guy in this forum and I would like to make you change your opinion about this matter.

Dear friends … ALL we made some mistake some time to time posting … the difference with me is that there is not a large group of people analyzing day by day which would be your next mistake … (smile) … I understand that it is for the great Amount of traffic that I produce here … but I fear … that by the age … the health … or simply by lack of time … one day I began to write badly the name "Armand" … perhaps 5 or 6 times in a row … and suddenly, then began to appear theads criticizing: "That Tango01 … what bothers me is that he does not even know how to write his name! …" (smile)

Hope you understand what I'm talking about…

So, thanks for your support as always and hope my mistakes remain as low as possible… (smile)

Well,welcome back,friend!

I kid, but I do look at many of your posts.

zoneofcontrol06 Jan 2017 9:48 p.m. PST

Tango-
Welcome back. The lion's share of your posts are interesting and some have drawn me in to at least reading a topic on an area of gaming I do not even follow. That has happened often.

And remember… some people look at their own mistakes and see a place to make themselves better. Some people look at the mistakes of others and see a place to make themselves FEEL better.

Tango0106 Jan 2017 10:36 p.m. PST

Thanks my friends!. (smile)

I blocked you Tango01 old bean, I found the quantity of your posts too much for my tastes.

You know when you've been tangoed.
YouTube link

I've also found in a couple of occasions in the past where Bill has posted one of my news stories, and up pops a miserable sod saying 'yeah, we know. This has already been on TMP'. Odd, thinks I, this is MY news, and I've only just submitted it to Bill. That's when I find you (Tango01) have linked to my website to show the new product at the same time as I've sent it to Bill. Normally I'd not complain about people promoting my stuff, but when it opens you up to the Grump-meisters I do. Whose's at fault, Tango01, or people who are on a mission to moan? I'm not sure.

John Treadaway07 Jan 2017 6:22 a.m. PST

Tango – as I've said before (many, many times) I find many of your posts engaging and informative.

Kudos.

I also find some of them (an indefinable number – it's a matter of taste) to be so unrelated to gaming and miniatures that I doubt the wisdom of posting them (and – occasionally – say so). But – at the rate you post – that's hardly surprising. Statistics are, after all, just that.

I'm not prepared to do the maths on ‘repeats' (I have many better things to do) but to be honest, I doubt the accuracy of yours, I'm afraid. If I've spotted them (repeats*), and others have commented on them, then the idea that the frequency is 0.00013784% is… well, I'll just leave it at "you'd have to prove the mathematics to me".

But that's not really the point, though, is it? The fact that you get many, many comments on it means – however often it happens – it's too often. I'm simply suggesting you aim to take actions to prevent (or at least reduce) this. Nothing personal is implied.

My point has always been, simply this: up the quality of what you post rather than the quantity. Actually listen to critical comment from other users (maybe read their posts and comment on those more often than you do). Maybe rein in just slightly your desire to get some bizarre ‘top score' on postings**. Post just a few less and up the quality of what you do post. I've said it numerous times.

Like I said earlier, if you were to do that then no one can criticise you, least of all me. It's just some advice (read my Breaking Bad quote from earlier).

And yes we can all chose (as was pointed out earlier) not to take advice (whether we actually listen to it or not) so feel free to discard this at your leisure.

Welcome back.

John T

* Of not just your own work but other people's postings, notably material already on the front page of the Hobby News

** Seriously, 7980 in seven months? That's almost forty a day.. OK we get it: you win…

Tango0107 Jan 2017 11:10 a.m. PST

My average is 37 per day… now…. in the near past… it was 43… so I'm reducing my participation… (smile).

40 a day – which maybe get 100 hits each.

Would The Editor in Chief (may he live forever) miss 1.5 Million hits each year?

I think he would.

PrivateSnafu07 Jan 2017 12:05 p.m. PST

I think the criticism of the double posts are not you, Tango, posting your own stuff twice, but when it has already appeared in the newsfeed.

It doesn't upset me, so keep them coming as far as I am concerned. It does make you seem a bit daft and opens up the criticism. I know you don't follow the feed.

Someone needs to make a poll. Do you follow the newsfeed?

John Treadaway08 Jan 2017 12:35 p.m. PST

I blocked you Tango01 old bean, I found the quantity of your posts too much for my tastes

Me too Nick. Rather than keep asking Raul to be more respectful of other people's news (and rather than being an old moaner) I have now blocked him.

Sadly I will miss out on a few things but 40 posts a day (a number of which I'd already read: three of them today alone before I hit the stifle & ignore) was just too much for me.

My loss, I'm sure.

cazador09 Jan 2017 1:44 p.m. PST

Agree with you John, but he's never going to change. Possibly something to do with importance…..

zoneofcontrol09 Jan 2017 2:00 p.m. PST

Perhaps an easy solution would be to post something to the FAQ section enlightening people that even though they are a member (paid or free) they are not required to read every post made by every member on every Board here on TMP.

That would be a win-win situation for both sides of the issue. The people that wish to post items (gaming related or not) to TMP could do just that. The people that don't want to read every post ever made to TMP would know that they do not have to do that.

Edit:
Just thinking further…
Sometimes when I open a posting I realize that it is not something I want to read so I close it without completely reading it and move on to another post. I am hoping it is OK to do that.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 3:09 p.m. PST

I would welcome being released from the tyranny of having to read everything that is posted!

evil grin

Good suggestion!

JCBJCB21 Jan 2017 4:06 a.m. PST

Stifle-and-ignore made TMP readable again for me, because I just couldn't stand dozens of posts a day from the same user, heedless of the helpful suggestions of others. Best development ever.

It doesn't solve things for me when I run into them on board searches, but I'll take the news feed improvement any day.
