I just finished my first batch of 3D printed Star Trek minis and wanted to show them off! I hope you like them.

Are those your designs and are they on Shapeways?

TheWhiteDog05 Jan 2017 8:17 p.m. PST

I've been doing a lot of TMP-era 1/7000 stuff lately. It's a fun scale, until you get to the Enterprise-C, then fleets become more difficult to assemble.

Now I'm starting the Dominion War in 1/15000!

Keep on Trekking!

Battlespace Publishing06 Jan 2017 7:36 a.m. PST

Those are not my designs but they are on shapeways. I have had no problem getting dominion war era ships in 1/7000 scale off shapeways. Would you want a list of models by class?

TheWhiteDog06 Jan 2017 1:19 p.m. PST

I should clarify, I meant "difficult" as "expensive". I've got an Ent-C prototype that ran about $35 USD, and though it is gorgeous, it's too pricey to field more than one or two. A Nebula-class runs close to $70. USD

With 1/15k I picked up 20 Miranda-class for $16 USD, so more cost effective when trying to represent large battles. Just have to leave out the Defiant at that scale! For example, an Excelsior is about an inch long. I'll post photos this weekend!

MacrossMartin06 Jan 2017 8:58 p.m. PST

Those are, quite frankly, some of the nicest 1/7000 'Trek minis I have yet seen.

I can see the appeal of gaming actions in this scale; less decalling to do! :D There's no way you could expect to see each stencil and logo at this size.

Levity aside, those are really nice, and superbly brushed, too. You can be rightly proud to field those against the Federation's enemies.

@ MacrossMartin: Thank you good sir, I find that when I have superior models in hand I put considerably more effort into the paint jobs. I call it 'Mike's Correlated Painting Effect'.

@TheWhiteDog: I agree on the expense scale but I have found it to be a climbable obstacle. I am just slowly assembling my fleet one order at a time. I limit myself to an order of about $100 USD CAD each time. Also I should consider myself to be lucky to have a wife who both games and is a Trekkie.

Beyond my comfort zone, and I've spent damn near ruinously on various sets of ships.

…who both games and is a Trekkie.

BEYOND luck. Obvious foresight on your part. Sounds a keeper!

To give credit "Where" credit is due, some of Shapeways miniatures are nothing less that Great, others so so.

HOWEVER.. cost & look depend a great deal of the type of material used. Several are done in "WSF" (white soft flexible) material, IIRC its one of the least expensive versions but it often leaves the mini w/ a "grainy feel". Ive seen a few primed, they looked as if coverd in 'lint'.

@Battlespace
you and @WhiteDog are very acurate on the cost consideration. Ex. WhiteDog's, a single 1/7000 "Nebula" class for $70. USD Thats not something I can even imagine considering.

Shapeways can be a great resourse, but by all means, "Shop around" before you start investing in any one 'scale'.

In both ST & SW Universe, acurate scale is a matter of "who" you use as your resource. i.e. Paramount may list a vessel as one size, while Fasa different info on the same class of ship.

Part time gamer04 Mar 2017 11:53 a.m. PST

Got several ADB Zocchi plastic Fed ships. Ive always wished he had done the Klingon as well.
Ive created the "Goddess: class Cl. using his 'tug', (for MY ST Universe), so its not 'cannon'.

(sorry getting away here) More to the point.
ADB are listed as 1/3788.
Shapeways 7000 scale, the largest I saw is about 1.6 in.

Once TF Games did "elite" series, cruisers only. The Constitution is roughly 1 3/8in (1.37) so slightly smaller than Shapeways.

Im just not familar w/ the material used & the scales so close, no point to switch BUT.. if these were even 1/6000, just a bit larger, Id be all over this.

Battlespace Publishing05 Mar 2017 5:05 a.m. PST

Well you can always ask the sellers on shapeways to re-scale their models to the scale you want.
