anyone have any suggestions for good uniform books on the Prussian Army 1810-1815 period, looked at Ospreys but some of those are out of stock

See if you can find Stephen Summerfield's books. A bit pricey, but very well done. Not books, but check out Peter Bunde's uniform plates. He provides almost exhaustive coverage of the Prussian army of this period.

Prussian Army 1812 – 1815 by Nash, pricey but good

Another vote for Nash but don't lose it if you get one.

Does anyone know how I can get "We shall meet in Vienna" in Europe/Germany. 55$ for p&p seems a little bit hard.

Have you looked at the Mont St Jean website?

centjours.mont-saint-jean.com

I feel Dr. Summerfields books are very comprehensive.

thanks all, just bought two copies of the David Nash books for £15.00 GBP one hard back the other paperback

14Bore07 Jan 2017 4:54 a.m. PST

You need two copies, I had three and can't find or get 1. My paperback is a collection of pages and is missing, I photocopy it into a notebook 30 years ago also missing, and put it into my computer which is dead.

Old Smokie, don't believe the cavalry flags Nash describes. All bar of one them (Lithuanian Dragoons) are wrong- including the Garde du Corps (Liebstandarte, so should have a silver centre and possibly silver backgrounds to the corner monograms)- though the jury is out on which style of flag was carried by the 1st West Prussian Dragoons. The same with the LW flags.

As for books, Oli Schmidt and Peter Hofschroer's Ospreys are very good, if not as detailed as Stephen Summerfield's. Oli's Elite on Prussian light infantry is particularly good.

Cheers.

Dal.

There is a fairly recent Osprey on the 1815 Army of the Lower Elbe too – the Ligny & Waterloo one.

Old Smokie.

Glad to help. Nash is not a bad source, and a fine read in itself, but there's a few errors there. BTW, if you're painting any kuerassiere then ignore Nash when you paint the shabraques. They should be in the facing colour (some dispute whether dark blue, cornflower blue or red for the Brandenburg regiment- hopefully Oli or HKW will chime in to confirm, but I think they were red), bordered by the button colour (metallic for the officers).

thanks again Dal thumbs up

go for the books by Dr. Summerfield – I am not impressed with the uniform samples seen so far in We shall met in Vienna

As for Prussian cuirassiers, saddle cloth as facing colours, laces around them as button colour, the only exception Brandenburger Kürassierregiemnt – blue facings but red saddle cloth.

Nash was a very good effort, seeminlgy very much influenced by Pietsch, but as Dal pointed out, some pitfalls like those as saddle cloth for Kürassiere or generals cap did occur.
