Hello, I have 120 painted French miniatures based in 3s. I am new to Black Powder. How many 15mm figures do you recommend to put per basic unit? I know there are no "standard" in Black Powder but what do you think works well? (infantry, cavalry, artillery) thank you |

Most people that I have seen use 4 or 5 bases as a standard sized unit. |

Stands don't really matter except to denote larger/smaller units. So you could do something like 3/4/5 bases for small/medium/large units. |

Agreed We use 6 stands for a standard unit of infantry – which for me in 15mm would be 4 figs per stand so 24 figs per standard unit |

6 stands, four figures per stand as a minimum in 15mm for infantry. |

While not strict about it, the rulebook recommends a standard unit having a frontage of about 240mm. If you use cm instead of inches for ranges and movement you can halve that. I play with 10mm and use four one inch bases per unit.(So about 100mm frontage in line) |

when we first started out with Black Powder, we used four stands as the standard unit, and 24 as large. Later, as we bought more, we used 6 stands for standard, and 32 for large. Each stand had 4 figures on them, but a few had 3 figures. I all these cases it worked just as well. |

thanks all for the feedback. After carefully considering it, I will start by basing my miniatures for DBN first and will possibly expand to Black Powder when and if I have more stands. |

I think that is a good move on your part. |

repaint, my 15mm Napoleonics are based for DBN too. For Black Powder I use 2/3/4 bases for a small/medium/large unit, so 16/24/32 figs. |
