I have been reading Matakishi's blog for years. I love the buildings he makes. I have looked for cork tiles to make buildings, but the cork I find here in the US is either too flimsy or too thick.
Does anyone know of a US source of cork tiles that will work for making buildings like the ones he does on his blog?

The site recommends "flooring cork" because it is more suitable for making buildings.

A quick search of home depot:

You might also consider Bangorcork:

Yep, the stuff for floors is almost half an inch thick. More than I wanted. The bangercork looks like what I have found other places. What Matakishi uses looks to be fairly thin and also more rigid. I guess I ought to just ask him about it.

I think they are about 1/4 inch thick. I have a lot of them and have used them many times.

I ordered a pack through Lumber Liquidators- they were about 6mm thick, coated on one side. Not sure that they're that much better than foamboard though.

I did the same search a while ago. The closest I could find to want matakishi is using is cork floor underlayment. It's what goes between the actual foundation floor and what ever hardwood or tile you put on it.

The stuff from Michael's was either too thick or to floppy. And most cork flooring has a rigid lamenate on one side. That's why you want the underlayment since it's just cork with no covering.

Unfortunately, I never found a place that sold the stuff in small enough amounts for our uses. It's always on something like boxes of 200 sq ft.

Most flooring stores will send you small samples so you can see what they're like, and try building with the stuff before you order it.

Here is one of the places I found that has the cork underlayment

It seemed like the 3mm is too thin for more than 1 story buildings. & thickness seemed to fit 15mm figures the best.

I don't remember if I got any 6mm.
