I may have time for a short visit to Jena later in January. Short being the operative point, I would have about an hour at the most in the middle of a very long drive. Is there anything worth visiting in such a small window ? |

I was there back in the mid 90's, most of the small towns (Cospeda, Isserstedt, Closewitz, Vierzehnheiligen, Lutzeroda) are not much changed. I think it is worth the drive around these towns, most have a plaque in the square describing the events. The plateau to the west of Jena is also worth a walk around. |

There is a small but nice museum in Cospeda. Here is one link for you: jena1806.com/battle.html You can drive through most of the villages (limited changes) and get a feel for the landscape. It is best to research the battle well first as there is limited signage and it will help you know what you are looking at. |

Cospeda Museum is nice, you also can go to Jena and walk up to the plateau where the battle happened by the Steiger and you will appreciate the efforts of the French soldiers to haul up some artillery pieces would take you more than an hour – so I think Cospeda would be best for you. |
