The Japs have utilized the natural defenses of the island to such a point that each ridge, each rag, and each hill must be taken by storm. Bloodiest? depends on how you define that. By most casualties? I think I'd have to say Stalingrad. Fiercest fighting, with no quarter asked or given? Have to go with the Islands. near-zero Japanese survivors on most of them. |

Was this the most bloodiest hand to hand battle in WW2? The bloodiest hand to hand battle was the one going on in your own trench, shell-hole or room. No other one ever mattered. |
