Out of curiosity who all out there is making plastic 28mm sci fi? I prefer not to use lead at the moment due to having small children around. I know of course Games Workshop is and with some kit bashing their lines can cover a lot of sci fi ground, but I'd like a bit of variety if it's out there to be had. |

Both Wargames Factory and their subsidiary Dreamforge produce plastic 28mm SF sets. Dreamforge specializes in SF. |

Mantic also. Look in their Deadzone line. Since the Warpath kickstarter is shipping, those figures should be available soon. |

Manic makes plastic scifi stuff. It matches the look of GW stuff. If you want a good deal on a lot of it, I am selling off my stuff, still unassembled and unpainted. I just never could get into their Deadzone game. Send me an email at andersintl at aol dot com. Put "TMP post for plastic Mantic scifi" in the subject line so I can spot it. Thanks, Matthew |

Check out Reaper's Chronoscope line. Quite a few of their figs are made in the non metal "bones" material. |

I'm surprised no one mentioned Warlord Games excellent looking Beyond the Gates of Antares. It isn't all plastic but you can get some very nice looking plastic sets for it. In addition to that North Star is going to be producing weapons kits to convert their Frostgrave stuff to sci-fi. Very nice! |

I suppose mentions of BtGoA stuff would depend on how anal one wants to be about 28mm. Apparently not many are inclined to be, but if they are then the scaling is questionable. The Concord plastic troopers are about a head or so taller than "true" 28mm minis, represented here by Afterlife and Ghosts of Hefei:
OTOH Judge Dredd was also supposedly 28mm and IIRC Havoc Protocol was officially 30mm, if indeed it was anything officially. Other than size issues, the Concord plastics at least are definitely an option. There are some other plastics in the line, notably Ghar battle suits which are quite nicely alien looking. --- Not mentioned previously are the EM4 Miniatures plastic troopers and gangers. Limited (and sometimes just plain odd) poses and they are old as dirt, but also cheap as the said substance and (the ones I've got anyway are) of good quality with nice enough detail. link em4miniatures.com Also I'm not quite sure if they are a bit taller than "real 28mm" minis since I haven't taken a comparison shot. --- Also lacking a mention is Maelstrom's Edge which AFAIK is officially 28mm. The starter set has a lot of plastic troops (including some mechs/droids) and I've seen it on sale some place (maybe Wayland) lately. maelstromsedge.com/medge Judging solely by the pix, they aren't quite the best thing beyond pre-sliced bread like the production company was wont to say during the KickStarter but maybe they are nicer IRL. |

If you're concerned about lead poisoning, you might check how much lead is actually in the modern metal figures. Swallowing small objects is definitely a concern, but it applies equally to plastic and metal. |

I bought some Afterlife minis they were tiny (lovely mind but tiny) I'm willing to bet that the Afterlife stuff won't fit with most modern 28mm sci-fi ranges (which of course are not really 28mm but like 35mm in these days of scale creep)were as the BtGoA will probably fit very nicely with most modern sci-fi minis. |

Proxy miniatures 'Stealth Troopers', (cheap but underwhelming) Terminator Genysis' endoskeletons and human resistance fighters, (available from Warlord, currently well-discounted, Em-4's 'Space rangers' (40k-terminator proxy) Plastic Vehicles: try the Robogear/tehnolog ranges. (Figures are 30mm+, but the vehicles are in the right ballpark. |

"If you're concerned about lead poisoning, you might check how much lead" You are pretty unlikely to get lead poisoning from elemental lead anyway. |

+1 for Gates of Antares. It's a great set of rules too. |

Plus one for Reaper. Most of their chronoscope bones figs are one-offs, but you can get at least a squad worth of varying poses for thier IMEF and NOVA sci-fi trooper figures. |

One other thing to consider. Resin dust is pretty toxic and as it's so light, it's probably more likely to be inhaled/ingested as lead. |

But injection-molded plastic is pretty safe. The Sedition Wars minis aren't too bad. They're slender, close to true 28mm in proportions (they scale up nice next to Infinity minis), and for ~$55 you can get the whole box of 21 humans, 1 minitank, and 28 technozombies. |

Prince Rupert of the Rhine 02 Jan 2017 4:38 a.m. PST: I bought some Afterlife minis they were tiny (lovely mind but tiny) Depends a bit on your definition of "tiny". Afterlife minis aren't so much shorter than "standard 28mm" miniatures (read GW, with the caveat that I don't have anything from them made in the last 10 or so years), but look distinctly they are more realistically proportioned than your typical "heroic" 28mm figures. Troopers from the line are a little taller than the civilian pictured here:
Contrariwise, BtGOA Concord are a bit taller than your GW fare but again, a little less "heroic":
