Some may be SHOCKED!!! Some may be appalled.
I find the whole thing hilarious.
So much for "reality TV".

The Klan is …. it's the Klan. Why do the producers feel the need to fake things?
How could A&E screw things up so badly as to actually give the Klan a thin veneer of being picked on? Amazing.

nazrat01 Jan 2017 9:14 a.m. PST

The idiots agreed to do the show, then gladly took bribes to do things the way the producers asked, and now they're acting like victims? Seems like they are just as stupid (or far worse) than I already thought they were.

nazrat01 Jan 2017 9:15 a.m. PST

And this was a documentary-- the Klan "reality TV" series is still coming…

Weasel01 Jan 2017 9:21 a.m. PST

I'm going to get in on this "Get paid to do something and then refuse to do it" business that seems to be all the rage nowadays.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP01 Jan 2017 9:27 a.m. PST

So the KKK feel that the documentary makers made them out to be a bit dumb ? And generally put them in a bad light?

Really? The documentary makers did that? Walking around in mom's old sheets – was that the idea of the documentary makers as well?

Come on Winston – tell me that's a fake story. grin

cosmicbank01 Jan 2017 9:46 a.m. PST

When does the show about Wargamers come on, 400 hours of video of a guy painting figures then 400 hours of video of his friends telling him he painted them wrong.

zoneofcontrol01 Jan 2017 9:54 a.m. PST

Just 400 hours of "friends" telling he painted them wrong?

Maybe we can offer them bribes to say nice things about the painted figures.

SBminisguy01 Jan 2017 9:55 a.m. PST

The reality is there are no more than 3,000 to 5,000 actual KKK left in America -- so I see this as a clumsy attempt by A&E to attack conservatives. As the linked article says, A&E "The network had secured endorsements from civil rights leaders associated with the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, and Black Lives Matter" to promote the series.

Winston Smith01 Jan 2017 10:06 a.m. PST

Come on Winston – tell me that's a fake story.

No, it's "reality TV". Far worse. grin

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut01 Jan 2017 11:20 a.m. PST

George Orwell's "1984" was meant as a warning, not a how-to manual. The increase in planned "fake nes" is starting to seem a little to much like the job of Winston Smith's namesake.

War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.
-MiniTru, 1984

doug redshirt01 Jan 2017 11:21 a.m. PST

So only 3,000 klowns left in America? Then how many alt.right , neo nazis and the rest of the foul scum are there? Sorry the best thing you can always do is pull back the mask and expose these society destroying monsters. All good men have to do for them to thrive is do nothing.

Grignotage01 Jan 2017 11:30 a.m. PST

Nothing better than playing the victim.

gamershs01 Jan 2017 11:48 a.m. PST

It was Hurst that said "You furnish the pictures and I'll furnish the war" about the Spanish American War. So if you don't have a good news story then make one up.

Whitewolf3601 Jan 2017 11:51 a.m. PST

The number of "klowns" is irrelevant. All it takes is one with hate and a silent society.

Bill Rosser Supporting Member of TMP01 Jan 2017 1:16 p.m. PST

The Klan was effectively destroyed in the late 60's early 70's. Over half the membership at that time were FBI informers, and I doubt that changed later. They couldn't do a thing without law enforcement knowing about it.

Now I do believe that there are white supremists existing paying lip service to the KKK, but my guess is they are more organized inside prisons than anywhere else.

zoneofcontrol01 Jan 2017 1:55 p.m. PST

So we have A & E and the show's production company funding hate groups under the guise of making a "documentary". How the alt.-left media has fallen!

The Beast Rampant01 Jan 2017 2:34 p.m. PST

The Klan has been irrelevant for ages. The 'alt-left media' should be grateful they're still around- they have always been a great go-to boogeyman. Best then to leave them cloaked in mystery; producers would have to work hard to make them look properly sinister.

Shouldn't such freakshows be left to the The(inappropriately-named) Learning Channel?

wminsing01 Jan 2017 3:54 p.m. PST

Plenty of white supremacists to go around, but the Klan has definitely already shot it's wad.

Written in the passion of the moment.

Hate cannot be defeated with more hate.

microgeorge01 Jan 2017 5:20 p.m. PST

By the way, Winston's initial post was spot on. How can you be so stupid?

"The Klan is …. it's the Klan. Why do the producers feel the need to fake things?
How could A&E screw things up so badly as to actually give the Klan a thin veneer of being picked on? Amazing"

Those A&E executives are about as dumb as the KKK knuckledraggers

SBminisguy01 Jan 2017 7:32 p.m. PST

Well, why did NBC feel the need to put explosives into Chevy pick-up trucks to prove that they were designed with a flaw that could cause them to explode in a car accident? After multiple crash tests the darn things just wouldn't explode…so they helped then explode a bit in order to project the reality they preferred…

Born and raised in the South. I've never met a real Klansman. Never known anyone that actually knew a living one.

I'm 55. I have lots of friends.

Funny how that is.

Makes one wonder.

Grelber01 Jan 2017 8:34 p.m. PST

Very nice costumes. Either somebody's wife is a good seamstress (OK, one of the guys could be a tailor), or there is somebody manufacturing and selling KKK outfits as a business.

Whitewolf3602 Jan 2017 7:39 a.m. PST

This type of back and forth is the reason I stopped going to some game stores. Nothing wrong with stating an opinion but name calling and hate is just not for me. Won't be renewing any more.

Weasel02 Jan 2017 9:50 a.m. PST

Wait.. what the heck is the "alt-left" ?

SBminisguy02 Jan 2017 9:59 a.m. PST

…yep…and I'm still wondering what the heck is the "alt-right" which just made it's political debut in 2016…

Just Jack Supporting Member of TMP02 Jan 2017 12:14 p.m. PST

I'm with Ivan and SBMinis regarding the "alt-"whatever; as usual, you have a country of 300+ million, so find the 12 freaks and paint that as the norm for the opposing political side.

Which is not to say each side doesn't have its problems, but for one half of the country to say the other half is racist is a bit… interesting? Perhaps things aren't quite as bad as your echo chamber has led you to believe?

"The number of "klowns" is irrelevant. All it takes is one with hate and a silent society."
That's a ridiculous statement, right up there with 'all Muslims are terrorists.'

"Well, why did NBC feel the need to put explosives into Chevy pick-up trucks to prove that they were designed with a flaw that could cause them to explode in a car accident?"
The same reason a formerly banned male would come back with a sock, pretending to be a female, in order to mansplain mansplaining, then mansplain how females feel about the inclusive use of pronouns in wargaming rules, then mansplain how man-friends/partners/acquaintances with guns are the most dangerous people to women.*

*Which is true, in the same way that the vast majority of homicides for men AND women are committed by a friend/partner/acquaintance, we just didn't need a man pretending to be a woman on a toy soldier forum to tell us that.

V/R,
Jack

SBminisguy02 Jan 2017 12:16 p.m. PST

LOL!

Weasel02 Jan 2017 12:26 p.m. PST

In the end, the US seems to largely work on the basis that one group of idiots get to sail the boat for 8 years, then we realize they are idiots and kick them out.
Then we let the OTHER group of idiots sail the boat the next 8 years until we discover that holy smokes, they are idiots too.

Who could have predicted that shocking turn of events? :-)

And since only idiots WANT to sail the boat…well… it's a self-perpetuating system.

Just Jack Supporting Member of TMP02 Jan 2017 12:34 p.m. PST

Ya get what ya pay for ;)

Weasel for President!!! So long as I can be your Secretary of Wargaming, and be paid handsomely for it.

Winston Smith02 Jan 2017 12:38 p.m. PST

"The president is CRAZY!"
"Who in their right mind would want that job?"
"Err…. yes. Good point."

Here, too. Or anything like 'em.

We'll make wargaming great again and make Games Workshop pay for it.

Amen, brother! Or sister. Or whatever you're identifying as today ;)

And 3mm, 6mm, 10mm, and 15mm are the only scales REAL wargamers use, all at the same time!

"Very nice costumes. Either somebody's wife is a good seamstress (OK, one of the guys could be a tailor), or there is somebody manufacturing and selling KKK outfits as a business."

Actually, yeah, there's a company that you can order from (the universal "you," not you specifically.

emckinney02 Jan 2017 2:49 p.m. PST

Regardless of the KKK, some racist/anti-semitic groups are trying to get publicity/recruit/actually terrify people by staging an ongoing campaign of harrassment against Jews in Richard Spencer's home town. link

Very nasty people, and it's sad and disturbing when you play "three degrees of separation" (you only need three for this version).

Dynaman878902 Jan 2017 2:50 p.m. PST

> and make Games Workshop pay for it.

Well, if any games company actually had the money they would be the ones.

Leadjunky02 Jan 2017 4:47 p.m. PST

When will learn to skip these posts!

Weasel02 Jan 2017 7:02 p.m. PST

We need to combat scale creep in 15mm, by going back to a strict foot to forehead measurement system, the way the founding fathers intended it.

Me too. And I have.

55 years and never a real Klansman. It almost like the image is being used for other purposes.

More would doghouse me.

Weasel and SB Minis summed it all up quite nicely and my thanks to them for that.

Wulfgar03 Jan 2017 9:20 p.m. PST

My ex-wife's great-uncle was a grand dragon who happily displayed his robes in the front window. Yes, Virginia, the Klan is real.

15th Hussar04 Jan 2017 6:12 a.m. PST

Born and raised in the South. I've never met a real Klansman.

Odd, that.

I was born in New of Jersey, been through the South innumerable times, live in FL, just spent a lovely three day weekend on the Redneck Riviera…I've run into several Klansman in my lifetime (and their ilk). Must admit, they were always outwardly friendly, or at least "stranger neutral" to me, never suspecting I wasn't a WASP or Aryan…at least according to their definition(s).

Apache 618 Jan 2017 11:18 a.m. PST

I'm 46, was born in Cleveland, OH and raised (after age of 14) in Tullahoma, TN. I've never met a real Klansman. Never known anyone that actually knew a living one.

capncarp18 Jan 2017 6:59 p.m. PST

The Klan is alive and well in Pennsylvania. They held a rally in downtown Chambersburg years ago, and sone friends of mine had calling cards left on their windshields with "You have been visited by the KKK" on them.

In other TMP threads, many people here have avowed that after multiple decades of wargaming, they have never met "the nauseatingly smelly wargamer". Others avow that they have met them. This leads one to conclude that they exist and are fairly rare. No matter how rare, one should not discount that they are a significant problem to those who encounter them.

Throughout history (a TMP-adjacent topic, at least), one of the major the banes of nearly all societies has been dealing with the high-impact, low-density threat.
