Grim and inevitable. There seems to be something very wrong with turkey's security forces and intelligence services right now.

Might have something to do with the fact Erdogan has sacked half of them…

"Bad guys" like terrorist, etc. can always get guns …

Bangorstu01 Jan 2017 1:09 p.m. PST

Well they can't, because our gun laws are one reason why we've not had a mass gun attack here, unlike Paris.

Doubtless it'll happen eventually, but it's not easy.

Very easy of course in turkey.. especially if your govenrment has spent the past year turning every govenrment department inside out looking for the enemy within.

Turkey is paying their "Free Pass" of Isis before the coup against Erdogan…

They don't have to just use guns. As we see, airliners, pressure cookers, knives, trucks, cars, etc., etc. …

Kevin Costner, Uma Thurman, Salma Hayek and Sting were shot? I hadn't heard. The Neewz sucks……………..

Turkey is paying their "Free Pass" of Isis before the coup against Erdogan…

Might want to hold off on the unwarranted speculation as to who did what. There's no hard evidence pointing to any group (ISIS, Kurds, etc) and none have taken credit. And it may well not be connected to any group at all.

But heaven forbid we let the facts interfere with the usual blame throwing and scapegoating….

Funny, those laws didn't stop the July 7th bombing (and many more). Stu, you don't need a handgun to commit mass murder…

the usual blame throwing and scapegoating…usually turn out to be true.

Stu, you don't need a handgun to commit mass murder…<M/q>

I, for one, do not find it 'funy' that firearms laws failed to stop a bomb attack….

You don't need a gun to commit mass murder. But as the Paris attacks proved, it does make it a lot easier.

Not for a lack of trying, I'm sure. After all, the UK has thousands of KM of coastline to land on and smuggle weapons in.

Gun laws just stop the law abiding, because by definition, criminals don't follow laws in the first place!

Except when its not.

Be patient and wait for the facts to emerge. Like an ADULT…

Lion… we do have a lot of coastline but getting stuff across the North Sea is obviously harder than we think. It's not like the IRA did it either.

As for Turkey…they are now fully at war with ISIS and the PKK. Given those two are also fighting it seems to me it needs to pick one side and stop fighting both.

coopman02 Jan 2017 3:46 p.m. PST

ISIS has now claimed responsibility for this attack. Now whether that's really true….

Lion in the Stars02 Jan 2017 4:21 p.m. PST

Stu: I was mostly thinking sourcing weapons in France, where AKs are apparently easy to come by, and then crossing the Channel or up more towards Denmark before turning west (whatever that chunk of water is called).

True enough… ANYTHING that happens in the world, they eagerly take credit for…

It's the North Sea.

You were on submarines, right?

IIRC, he was a Submariner … Go Lion !

Lion in the Stars03 Jan 2017 5:37 p.m. PST

@Steve: Yes, USS Georgia and USS Kentucky, both Ohio-class SSBNs. Going out to sea, last man down flip off the Russian satellite and button up, you won't see daylight for at least 6 weeks.

Mithmee03 Jan 2017 6:34 p.m. PST

Just the first attack in what will be a long list of attacks this year.

Steve Wilcox04 Jan 2017 9:27 a.m. PST

@Lion in the Stars: Cool! Those are some serious subs!

Lion in the Stars04 Jan 2017 11:15 a.m. PST

So, any updates on catching the [expletives deleted] who did the shooting?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP04 Jan 2017 5:23 p.m. PST

Looks like Turks know who he is … but have not released the name. He is still at large.
