"As much as we'd like to believe what Braveheart and Return of the Jedi have told us, real-world battles are rarely won by the ragtag team of underdogs. Tanks beat horses, guns beat spears. Yet, as we've found again and again here at Cracked, often history turns out to be more awesome than fiction…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

It's a fun site that I visit every now and again. It's definitely tongue in cheek and the language reminds me of being back in the Navy. However, I enjoy the odd trivia and facts that they bring up. |

I'm with Mugwump. I used to read Cracked when I was a kid and they actually printed magazines (on papyrus). The language is a bit harsher now, but it is still good satire, both ways (making fun of the subject and making fun of popular culture's understanding of the subject). I can agree with 21eRegt, too. Cracked has never pretended to be anything other than trashy satire. If you don't like that, don't click. My faves are their photoplasty contests. Honestly, those little bits aren't a bad way to introduce the topics to people who may have little to no interest in history. They lead to interesting questions based on the exaggeration and hyperbole. |

I only read #'s 2 and 1, which I knew from experience would be the most PC. Both were inaccurate portrayals of events. First, the Zulus did not face 8000 British at Isandlhwana, but only around 1800 or so, with less than 800 British regulars, vs more than 10,000 Zulus of which about a quarter would have had some firearm or other. The much more impressive action at Rorke's Drift – 4000 vs about 100, should have been substituted. I've never heard that Skraeling meant "weakling", but it was more likely to have meant something akin to "barbarian" or "savage," and MAY have derived from an Old Norse word for brawling. The Norse, led by Thorfinn Karlsefni and not Erik the Red, at most numbered 140, but were likely less than that since there had been settlers left further up the coast. I suppose the Skraelings would have numbers in scores if not hundreds being that they were the inhabitants of the region. It's not a big deal that these kinds of articles are generally misleading and inaccurate, it's that the average reader will take them as gospel. |

In general, the internet is like movies and video games: Good for learning if you go read about what actually happened, but don't rely on it as a main source |

I still remember one of their semi-regular characters, the "Talking Blob",and the artwork of John and Marie Severin,Don Orehek, and the "Shut-Ups" section. "Spies And Sabs" was hilarious too. |

Way back when,Cracked (and Sick) were for the kids who didn't like (or couldn't get) the sophisticated humor of Mad. |
