Using our home grown "This Hallowed Ground" rules I put on a play test of my scenario for Pickett's Charge today. We had 6 players (3 per side) and I was really happy with the result of the game. Scenario's like this are always hard to make enjoyable for both sides, but we found a method that works well for our group. Everything is 28mm --- all Perry Miniatures (with the odd exception here and there) --- table is 6 foot by 8 foot. Battle report and a ton of pictures here: link Some pictures to get you started …
Tons more pictures up on the blog … Regards, Jay |

The "eye level" shots remind me of the cyclorama. Amazing. |

Absolutely outstanding terrain and figures that are such a pleasure to view! I particularly like the way the colored variations of what I assume is teddy bear fur. This is most impressive! Would you be kind enough to explain your coloring technique? Thanks for sharing your photos. |

@IronDuke596 --- Yes, that is Teddy Bear fur for the base mat. There is a lovely couple on the east coast that make custom mats for reasonable prices. They made this mat for me for the battle based on the scenario map I sent them. Happy to put you in touch with them if you like – just drop me an email at sotek486@yahoo.com. Thanks all! :-) |

Gorgeous terrain and well-painted miniatures. You are missing "The Angle" however. |

Ahhh, the angle. Yes, there is an explanation. The angle would be around the white building extending off the table. Trying to jam a large area into a 6x8' table … given the scope of everything is challenging. Most important, from a playability perspective, an angle causes issues with the distance that some of the Confederate units need to travel, which, although historically sound, means those units are getting pushed around for no reason, since they'll be decimated before getting anywhere near the Union line – which again would be a great historical simulation --- but we are aiming for a challenging game for both sides. This was a difficult scenario to implement for all those reasons and more … but our end result is a playable wargame with levels of victory and achievement for both sides (because, even with the playability modifications, the Confederates will never fully carry the position, which is also important). Anyways … yes, there should be a more visible angle to the Union line … but I'll plead the 5th for playabliity. If you've ever played the solo boardgame "In Magnificent Style" by Victory Point Games, that is the source of my scenario inspiration and a big part of making the game work. Jay |

Spectacular job on everything. You can almost feel like you are watching people move across the battlefield. |

Truly beautiful set up. Did you Rebs have to make moral check to cross the fences? One thing you may want to think about, is adding Victory Points for the Confederates for take the either the angle or the clump of trees. For it was that point that they were aiming and continually dressed their advance toward it. This dressing resulted in some of the CS units to move across the face of the Union line and to compress the frontage of their attack. This exposed their flank as they closed on Union position. |
