So baccus bungled my Xmas present (or my Dad did) and instead of Franco Prussian war Bavarians I have WSS Bavarians. I've decided to paint them but have no real knowledge of this period and not wanting to invest further money it it. I was wondering what other countries 1700 Bavarians could pass for? Looks like each battalion had a grenadier company with fur caps. |

I don't think Baccus miniatures make any distinction between most troop types of this period; likely, the only differences for 6mm Bavarians would be what type of headgear their grenadiers and heavy cavalry (I think the Bavarians and Austrians still wore the lobster pot-helms). The fur-fronted mitres were fairly unusual. |

Baccus 6mm rank and file troops will pass as any rank and file troops. Just add color. The grenadiers of the time wore a mitre cap, either short or tall. Now it will be up to you to say what your grenadiers have. Cavalry headgear could be different as well. Tricorne hat, mitre, fez, the stocking that the French Dragoons wore, lobster helmet etc. Here is Baccus Paint guides on the subject. link Bavarian mounted grenadiers wore tall miters according to the guide. |

Bavarians and Austrian wore the same headgear for their grenadiers. You could use your Bavarians for Austrians with two caveats: The Austrians usually stripped their grenadiers off to form battalions at the start of a campaign while the Bavs usually only did it for specific missions. the second was that Austrian infantry bats were a bit bigger than other nations, maybe quarter to a fifth. |

Cheers. I might plump for Bavarians then. Nice colours. |

The Bavarian force is a nice compact little army, but it was pretty well finished after the 1704 campaign. There were units involved in later battles, but I would be tempted to go for Austrians with the figures you have. |
