OK, guys. I've got maybe 400 SF figures painted and based. In 2017, they're going into a game. But what game? The figures are individually mounted. Anything that looked cute from old West End Star Wars figures through Judge Dredd to any sort of pseudo-Squatt. An SF version of Dragon Rampant would be almost perfect--around 50 castings a side, very little book keeping and lots of D6's. The only thing I'd like which it doesn't do is the neo-colonial bit with a dozen heroes standing off hordes of cheap expendable aliens. So until Osprey publishes Star Marine Rampant, does anyone have suggestions? Simple, please. Rules coming in multiple volumes will not make it to the short list. |

Firefight 2.0 from Alterntive Amries (Ion Age). Simple, clean game mechanics. While constructed around their own range of figures, it is easy to fit any SF figures into the game. Loads of scenarios available as well. |

Many years ago someone ran a game where a marine platoon had to rescue civilians in a city while bugs attacked from the outskirts of town. Choppers would arrive every other turn to cart of the civvies. It used a few hundred minis, and I think the rules were War Engine by Aaron Overton. You could use the same scenario, adjust the attacker/defender ratio. |

Warhammer 40K 3rd edition is very good for that size game. Simple, quick, one rulebook, all the army lists in it. You can probably get it for $5 USD or so second hand. |

I'll second, and even third, Pictors' recommendation. 3rd edition 40K would handle that quite well. You could even switch to using Bolt Action's activation mechanic to switch things up a bit. |

3rd ed 40k or maybe Blast Pistol by Nordic Weasel Games. |

Tomorrow's War by Ambush Alley would be good |

Nah, Tomorrow's War needs more than just d6s (elite troops need d10s or d12s). 40k3e will work for what you want. |

That's the one. Black Templar Space Marines on the cover, with the tagline "In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war". |

Mantic's Warpath could work even if you plonk down the entire lot on the table at once. But not necessarily just yet, IIRC according to the latest newletter the 2nd ed is to go on retail in April. The 1st ed is available for download but according to people who were in on the latest related Kickstarter and have actually read the 2nd it's a significant improvement. It also has related versions that cater to smaller to ca. platoon level (Firefight) and small skirmish (Deadzone). The former should fit with the "50 castings per side" model. No provisions are made for including random miniatures (except as "counts as" of course) but then again none are provided in any edition of Wh40k either… link |

First off, get WarEngine/Shockforce 2nd edition. Very flexible, fun and fast to play. It's back in "print" as a pay-what-you-like PDF from Wargame Vault. link Contains lots of sample armies and is definitely worth the $5 USD or so that most folks seem to be giving. The only drawback is that in it's stock form it really only handles light vehicles like bikes, Scout walkers, light tanks, etc. though folks have home-brewed rules for larger vehicles. I'd recommend looking at Warpath as well. It's quite a bit different from the earlier free versions. I have been looking over my rulebooks from the KS which delivered a couple weeks ago. It seems to be even a bit more streamlined than 3rd edition 40k, though not nearly as much so as the earlier "Kings of War in Space" versions, and it is actually two games, "Warpath" (Big honking 40k size battles and larger) and "Warpath Firefight" Smaller, Platoon plus vehicles engagements. It actually comes as 3 books in one pack Warpath, Firefight, and a Setting Sourcebook. Looks pretty impressive. The Beta rules are easy to find online with a bit of searching. Both of the rules above have very little bookkeeping and plenty of D6's. Lastly, if you like the heros vs hordes thing, check out Blasters and Bulkheads. It's based on goalsystem so you have fairly detailed heroes with potent stats and groups of faceless mooks that effectively function as high hitpoint single units. Has a bit more bookkeeping, but not alot and is a fun game. |

You could try my game: Xeno-force xeno-force.com It uses any models you have, no prefered background. Unique semi-sooperative play. |
