…regiment , grenadier 28mm Nice!
Main page link A Question for my fellow Napy Boys members… does anyone know why in Napoleon Era they never used these "grenade launchers" again?…Except in some naval melee combats…. Thanks in advance for your guidance. Amicalement Armand |

Too dangerous. - They would explode in your hand or if just thrown. - They would be thrown back. The men who threw them were considered the bravest in the army and were the basis of the grenadiers. |

Thanks!. But why to be so dangerous on XIX° Century and not on XVIII° Century?… (smile) War is dangerous and a Company with hand grenades would be a great advantage in a siege for example… Not to mention if they throw a dozen grenades to a compact Batallon marching to the attack … I suppose that the carnage would be terrible … Amicalement Armand |

Grenades can't be thrown very far so work best when thrown in an assault on fortifications where you can grab some cover and light them. In a field battle you can't be lighting grenades in your own ranks as if the grenadier is shot or otherwise drops a live grenade in his own unit the resulting casualties and confusion is not worth the risk. I can't think of an instance of them being used in open battle in the 18th century. |
