Just saw Rogue One. Liked the movie and loved the MC 75. I am in hopes a Titanium mini comes of it. I was wondering though, why are the Rebel Transports always in a fleet action? I know that when Lucas did "Return of the Jedi" Battle of Endor scene he was still using models and to make the Rebel Fleet look bigger added the Transport models. Now the movies a CGI and you do not need to include an unarmed, non-fighter carrier ship in the mix. So, why are they still there? BTW, loved when the one transport ran into Vader's Star Destroyer. |

You nailed it. They were in ROTJ. |

Are all of them unarmed? I'd think that a rag-tag rebellion might well jury-rig weapons on all sorts of normally unarmed civilian ships. Probably nothing very impressive, but better than nothing. |

In some of the "Legends" EU, some were equipped with additional Quadlaser turrets, to act as anti-fighter escorts. I would suspect they could also be used for pilot-recovery SAR and a few other things. |

There was an also an EU source that some of the transports at Endor were loaded with explosives to act as fire ships against slow targets. Other than that I agree they might be useful for SAR or the like. -Will |

Han-style 'modifications' Inpromptu SAR Fire ships For speculation, I love these. I just assumed usual fleet train (fuel/reloads/parts) and unarmed troop carriers to refill any U-Wings that made it back from the planet. Usually left in safer areas, Rebels are pretty crazy and 'want to be in on the action.' Doug |

Wonder if they used em as escort carriers. I have done that in my solo Full Thrust games, and even came up with an SSD for it. |

Q Ships? Not the best use of them I suppose but if you're desperate you don't get picky… |

The Beast--there are old Rebels, and there are bold Rebels, but there are very few old, bold Rebels. |

One of the things I liked about Rogue One was that it gave you the sense of a rebellion that was much bigger and much wider spread than just the small band that we see in Episodes IV-VI. There are lots of small resistance groups which exist on a local level and not directly connected with "The Rebellion". I could see out-of-the-way systems cobbling together small squadrons of converted freighters to conduct raids on Imperial outposts and stuff like that. |

emckinney: ;->= Survival of rebels in the movies wasn't that good. Better than Stormtroopers, I'll admit. "Certainty of death, small chance of success – what are we waiting for?" No, not quite right. "Do you want to live forever?" Nope, that's not it… Doug |

Yes, I think both the presence of Saw Guerra's non-aligned partisan force and the Rebel council meeting showed on-screen that the Rebellion is definitely not this monolithic entity and the cell/faction/whatever that Luke, Han and Leia are involved in is just that; a portion of the overall Rebel Alliance. It's not even clear to me whether the Rebel forces present at Scarif involved all of the factions represented at the Yavin IV meeting; it seems to me that some of the alliance members told their forces to not get involved. Cool stuff to think about. Anyway I agree that a lot of these rebel or non-aligned cells are going into battle with a couple of refitted freighters and maybe a handful of pre-Clone Wars relics for fighters. A lot of these groups probably don't last long but it explains in party why the Empire is thinking it needs some giant morale-shattering superweapon instead of just relying on a more conventional solution. -Will |
