Hi All Been having conversations about TV series. I seem to remember a while ago a mention of a TV series on the great Northern War with subtitles. I cannot remember the title or country. Please help ? Friends say I am getting confused with 1864 (Denmark) or 1790 Anno (Sweden). On a side note are 1864 or 1790 Anno worth watching? Cheers |

I've seen a few episodes of Anno 1790 on MHZ. It's about an ex-army physician who becomes a sort of government detective in Stockholm after the Russo-Swedish war,but who holds republican leanings. Lots of intrigue, but no battles. Beats watching another NCIS. m.imdb.com/title/tt2078818 I enjoy Nicolas Le Floch more--France,1760's. More swashbuckling: youtu.be/Hz2q33YPZuQ youtu.be/211XMa1D7lo |

There's the 2007 Russian film 'The Sovereign's Servant', also called 'The Battle of Poltava'. It's been on TV here in Oz a few times. |

The closest I can think of is the mini-series Snapphanar set during the Scanian War. It is pretty bad imho link |

1864 was worth watching, but it was a " drama" not just a war story. Book of the same title (non- fiction) is also worth a read. The whole episode was a sad indictment of politicians and shows what happens when they interfere with military decision making. Never seen anything on TV re The Great Northern War, likely to have been Scandinavian or Russian? Anything on You Tube? |
