I really like BKCII, favorite set. One thing that "bugs" me is there is no difference in playing it so a base is a squad vs a base being a platoon. I've played it both ways and am comfortable doing it that way moving forward. But I wonder if there should be some small rule differences when playing one vs the other? Are the concerns of the company commander different than the Battalion/regimental commander? Change the scale of movement or firing? Just looking for conversation. |

Isn't a base meant to be a platoon in the basic game ??? I thought that's accounted for in the ground scale. ? |

It says you can play it either way with Ground scale changing from 1cm=20m at Platoon and 1cm=10cm at squad level. |

The difference which does occur (and not just in bkc) is that some organisations don't readily translate to platoon= 1 stand eg British tank troops where a squadron of 4 troops of 3 sherms + 1 firefly turns into 3 platoons of shermans and 1 platoon of firefly, likewise German weapons platoons.. which have individual sections..don't quite work out right. plus the perennial problem of 1 stand = 1 platoon when particularly vehicle and AFV stands are different strengths, yet are treated the same. |

The mechanics seem to fit the platoon scale better. |

At either level I don't think there's much of a difference. Time and distance factors are already abstracted in either case so I don't see a need to change ranges or command and control. One thing I like about playing larger games (such as deploying a brigade) is you can justify a greater variety of troops. |
