Possible relocation to this area after 7 years in Germany and would be interested learning of some historical minis gamers and stores in the area.

Any help would be appreciated!

Tom,

The Harford Area Weekly Kriegspielers (HAWKs) meet on alternate Fridays at Grove Church in Aberdeen. (Today is a game Friday.)

New members are always welcome.

Thanks, Duncan. Have a LOT of questions as I have been away from the US gaming scene for a while. Have a feeling that what I have been collecting here may not be too popular back home. (6,10, 20 and 28mm SYW for example). IIRC, Aberdeen is only about 2 hours(?) from Gettysburg and Lancaster cons?

In any case, thanks for giving me some hope that there ARE historical gamers back there! Best to gang gaming tonight!

You have been out of the loop awhile! No Gettysburg con s---Fall In and Cold Wars are both in Lancaster now. Historicon is Fredericksburg VA (for 2017), then is moving to Somerset New Jersey.

Search the convention boards for some fun reading on the HMGS cons---best have some popcorn handy!

Thanks, Panzer4H43! Last HMGS East Coast Con I attended was back around 2005-ish. Was hoping someone from APG might respond so I coulod ask him some questions. Really, I am glad to see these big cons start to move about! After seeing Crisis this year in Antwerp, I got to see just how many gamers there are in Europe!

Closest club to me that does lots of historicals is in Ulm- only about an hour away but meets during the week and work hours are not friendly to make it there in time for the games. They also do 2 cons a year and have drawn from Northern Europe. It's a desert here for any kind of variety of dedicated game stores (Stuttgart area). Always nice to get to see before you buy…except resisting the impulse buy!

Thanks for your response!

Welcome back! Highly recommend the HAWKS as bon vivant gamers---a good bunch. Their con---Barrage---is fun, too. It will be held Sep 29 & 30 in 2017. Held in Havre d Grace---Google it for some past reports.

See you there!

Tom-
That's great news if you make it to this area! We'd love to have you run some SYW games at the HAWKS. (We actually have a large Imagi-nations project of 40mm SYW style figures in the club)

There are couple game stores in the Bel Air area, but none that stocks any quantity of Historical stuff other than Flames of War.

Tom,

I live in Aberdeen and have worked on APG for the past 20 years. Am happy to answer questions for you.

Also a member of the HAWKs.

Merry Christmas, Tom! We'll look forward to having you here.

We also run a lot of WWII games with your 10mm line! :)

Tom, there are two good hobby/gaming shops in the area, Critical Hit and Bel Air Games. A little farther away is Games and Studd in Glen Burnie. There is also good gaming in the area, particularly with the HAWKs. We even host an annual gaming convention in late September, called Barrage.

I am hoping you return to the land of the big PX means a re-release of the 10mm Minifigs lines.

In this thread you heard from Don, Duncan, Chris, and me -- all long standing HAWKs.

Hi, Guys! Will work on it! The wife and I outrightly own AIM. Minifigs Moderns I have rights to since GFI and Dan Levy put most of them out; Neil and Liz the others. For the WWII, (and other Minifigs) I still need to discuss with Dave at Caliver. We met last month at Salute but neither of us had much time to sit and really talk.

One this is for sure: If I can get back up and running, I want to bring back the 2nd Generation "Super Detail Range" of 15mm Naps. While I like Dave Higgs' 3rd Generation more, the amount of requests for that range has been remarkable! All in due time. Glad to hear that someone still uses the N scale (10-12mm-1/144th) stuff we did.

I have amassed a TON of N scale scenery while here. There is an "Old Toy" store across the street from where I live, that specializes in eisenbahn (model trains) and sells lots of built up buildings (and kits) really cheap! (Like Faller, Kibri, etc. For 2-12 Euros on average. Sure, most have the detail broken off but hey, it would have been broken off in the game anyway- so makes for cheap and plentiful source of buildings. Been using Z gauge for my 6's until I discovered Total Battle out of the UK. Not looked back since!

The Kallistra figs and Hexxon are really durable and provides much potential for mini gaming. Shipping is the killer and the owners know it. Simply put, using another material is out of the question for the large hexes as anything less would not be as sturdy. The size vs weight makes shipping expensive. The figures, (metal being heavier) ships much less expensively – smaller packages. The owners are great folks and we spent a lot of time talking at Crisis last month. Perhaps some enterprising company in the USA would order a container load. Overall shipping could be cheaper?…..

Don. Really would like to talk to you. Buck has the details- PM me your number and best time and I will call you on my dime.

Thanks, guys! Happy Holidays from der Deutchland!

Tom

Damn, Dye4minis--you landed face first in the butter tub with your mouth open! You would be hard-pressed to end up near a better bunch of gamers and nice folk as the H.A.W.K.S. Many happy games!
