Early this year, my buddy Steve, a graphics guy, got frustrated with turning blank Cards Against Humanity cards into custom cards. Then, in a variety of other card games, he wanted to turn common cards into special cards -- gag cards, mostly, with custom text and graphics. And he wanted to do it with his PC and printer.
After the better part of a year researching specialized paper, laser printer tolerances, and trial and error, he hit upon the right combo. Then he and I researched printing and die-cutting companies for the first prototypes. Made adjustments and had the second prototypes created.
Steve made InDesign, PDF, and other templates you download and insert text and graphics, and everything was ready.
Along with Dave the computer guy, we just launched a KickStarter campaign for the "CardMogrifier."
CardMogrifier KickStart Page
We'll have three sizes available at the start: Poker, Bridge, and this half-sized cards that are popular. We're going to be posting a video about how to use the CardMogrifier with an inkjet printer (takes a little more work on your part because inkjet printers work differently than laser printers, but it involves 400-grit sandpaper and 30 seconds of elbow grease…).
If you play games with cards, either a card game or a miniatures game with cards, or a boardgame with cards, we hope you'll give a click, watch the videos, and hopefully, pledge to fund the CardMogrifier.
Thanks,
Russ
Description:
Most gamers love to tinker with a game, especially if the game uses cards. Some companies include blank cards, but anyone who has tried to hand draw something on them knows the results often look horrible. And printing on a blank card is virtually impossible -- until now.
CardMogrifier not only lets you customize those blank cards, you can create entirely new cards. Imagine replacing card graphics with a custom photo, or, altering numbers and words to make a custom version of a card. Then, you just print it out.
The cards can be serious changes to the game. Or, you can make gag cards -- friends' heads stuck on cartoon bodies, references to infamous game decisions, or just plain goofy things that happened during a game.
Either way, the CardMogrifier allows you to adapt a card using the actual cards so you can seamlessly slip it into a deck. It'll look like a real card, feel like a real card, and shuffle like a real card…because it's a real card that's been cardmogrified.
