Hi gents, I've bought some 3D printed models of PLAN ships by Shapeway recently. Due to budget consideration, I had some of them printed in nylon plastic which turn to be too grainy to my eyes, fortunately those printed in frosted ultra detailed plastic seem quite nice. So I began the building project with these ones, mainly small vessels. Here what I've just finished are a group of Type 022 missile boats. I've only added some simple details on the masts. I also tried to make the wakes and splashed with cotton fiber.
Hope you like. Best Regards from China, Chen |

Those are very nice. It is unfortunate that the grainy finish of many Shapeways offerings is so distracting. |

Those look really great! Love the camo schemes. Thanks for sharing your pics. |

Those look really great. I'd love them on my table. Allen57, the grainy finish is really only in one material. If you opt for the more expensive materials, you don't get that grain (but you pay for it). I've bought some of the grainy material and if you put a coat of primer on it, it seems to smooth things out a bit. I have some 1/1800 ships and separately some aircraft I did in it that painted up very nicely. |

Those look really nice, Chen! Are you going to pick on some Americans with them, or do you have other opponents in mind? |

Looking good. The wakes and bow waves are very effective – must try that myself! |

Thanks for your kind comments, mates! Hi Lion in the Stars, I'm not very experienced in gaming, so am just thinking of a scenario of coastal skirmish in the South China Sea. |

Have quickly finished these 4 Romeo-class submarine… Tiny little things without any significant detail.
Cheers, Chen |

Submarines are supposed to be smooth hulls, they're quieter that way! Though you could add some periscopes and masts sticking up from the sail, I'm sure there are pictures of Romeo-class subs with all their masts and antennas up on the web. Great paint-work as always. |

Thanks, Lion in the Stars. I did want to add some periscopes, but as the surface on which to drill is just too small, I feared that the material would crack. So I gave up the idea. I find the frosted ultra detailed material quite brittle thus hard to cut and drill. |

Yeah, I did notice that my Blade Runner parking meters (3d models by Javelin98!) were kinda brittle. They snapped off their sprue really hard. Guess that means the subs need to be printed in something else? |

I suggest not. Otherwise the texture would make them look like foam-covered dead whales… |

Beautiful :-) what rules are you using? I've heard good things about Harpoon 4 |
