Washington clearly shows his bias against them and never bothered with Riflemen again. This was a mistake. He dismissed what could have been an asset, because he disapproved of their behavior and lack of military discipline. You have not shown that Washington did not know how to employ riflemen-you have clearly shown exactly the opposite (see the article you posted on the Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment). You have not shown, as you stated, that Washington sent riflemen south. The unit he did send to the South was the Maryland Division under de Kalb, composed of the Maryland Line and the Delaware Regiment. |

Kevin, It's an opinion. That's all. You can differ if you choose. I put that article out there because it has Historical merit and I thought that TMP'ers would be interested. Whether it agrees with my opinion or not is moot. It adds several missing pieces to the puzzle that is the Continental Army and was worth reading and perhaps bookmarking for future reference. This isn't about who's opinion of Washington on the question of Riflemen is better. It's about sharing information and differing opinions. |

Opinion is one thing, to which we are all entitled to our own. However, no one is entitled to their own facts. And if anyone is going to take a historical stand on a subject, they should at least try and back it up. If not, all it does is add to the confusion. The article was a great addition and one that can be used for reference in the future. |
