Greetings all. Many moons ago, back in the time of hard copy, I came across a photo in a book on porcelain, possibly specifically on Meissen figures, showing a vignette of a group of mid-C18 civilian miners wearing some form of ?guild uniform with a cap of leather (I think) which had a turned up flap at the front, bearing some form of insignia- (very much in the form of the later Austrian kasket French pokalem forage caps, and British Light infantry caps, etc.) If I made a photocopy of the page, it has long since been lost. Is anybody familiar with civilian uniforms (and headgear) associated with specific trades as worn in Germany- I suspect more popular in the Reich and Scandinavia than in the south and west of Europe at that time. AMany thanks |

The hat is called a Fahrhaube or Fahrhut. Check out the figures on this link I believe the one on your right is wearing the helmet you described. |
