Actually, the Romans did occaisionally have women on women bouts, with women dressed up as traditional gladiators. It was kind of their idea of a drag show.

Very well painted

From what No. 3 son tells me there is some historical evidence that there were women gladiators but they probably fought against other women gladiators only

In the British museum is a marble relief depicting two female gladiators fighting Amazon and Achillia. But they are bareheaded and equipped differently than this model. The models helmet is based on an actual example of a bronze Samno-Attic helmet now in the Mougins museum of classical art. The rest of her equipment is somewhat fanciful or based on Roman gear from different periods. It is a really nice model though!
