Just picked up an interesting book, "Betrayal at Little Gibraltar" by William Walker, which discusses the AEF offensive in the Meuse-Argonne sector – in particular, the attack of the American 79th Infantry Division through Montfaucon, Corn Willy Hill and ultimately the important Kriemhilde Stellung. While the book's general theme addresses an ugly scandal involving the intentional disobedience of Army orders to support the attack of the 79th Division by the egotistical commander of the adjacent American 5th Corps – covered up for internal army political reasons (hence the "Betrayal" in the title) – the book also provides very good tactical level accounts (and some wargamer quality maps) which will be good material for some interesting scenarios. Well written and the culmination of twenty years of archival research. Thumbs up from Blutarski. Happy holidays to all. B |
