Do you play the WWII ruleset from Easy Eight?

* yes
* no
* never heard of it
* not any more
* not interested in WWII

skippy000106 Dec 2016 2:09 p.m. PST

Is it still available?

redbanner414506 Dec 2016 2:10 p.m. PST

sometimes

Mako1106 Dec 2016 2:18 p.m. PST

Haven't in a while, but yes.

45thdiv06 Dec 2016 2:35 p.m. PST

Not for a very long time long time. Are they still around?

Forager06 Dec 2016 3:00 p.m. PST

I've played it on occasion with someone else running the game.

Don Hogge06 Dec 2016 3:05 p.m. PST

Yes

Achtung Minen06 Dec 2016 3:32 p.m. PST

Yep, after trying everything on the block, I prefer BGWW2 for squad skirmish games. For platoon games I play TW&T and company level is IABSM.

It is certainly still available, although Easy Eight has closed their doors. Neo-Forge (who also carry the old Easy Eight miniatures, I believe) sells the rules, as does Syr Hobbs, and Laser Dream Works sells the tokens.

Honestly, it's a game that everyone should at least have in their library.

Weasel06 Dec 2016 3:36 p.m. PST

Nope, but I always wanted to. It looked really wicked.

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP06 Dec 2016 3:37 p.m. PST

Haven't played it in years and years….

Generalstoner4906 Dec 2016 4:11 p.m. PST

No.

Rudysnelson06 Dec 2016 4:23 p.m. PST

I actually got a copy of the rules and a few box sets from a store going out of business recently. I put the rules in my half price box. :)

*Yes – Love the rules. Especially the infantry rules.

Buck21506 Dec 2016 4:51 p.m. PST

Yes…

Who asked this joker06 Dec 2016 4:51 p.m. PST

Owned it but never played it. It's long since been sold.

Grignotage06 Dec 2016 4:53 p.m. PST

Yes, and have started playing a streamlined "updated" home brew version.

I think the beauty of the system is how intuitive it is. Activate your squad. Each guy can do two things. Shoot, move, stand up from prone, throw a grenade. No complex activation systems to learn, just grab the minis and play. Despite the, shall we say detailed charts, its a breeze to teach new players.

Dale Hurtt06 Dec 2016 5:23 p.m. PST

No, not after that one time…

evbates06 Dec 2016 5:37 p.m. PST

Yes

zoneofcontrol06 Dec 2016 5:41 p.m. PST

I've played it at some cons and even bought it. But haven't used my own set for a game, the cards are still unpunched.

Winston Smith06 Dec 2016 5:42 p.m. PST

No

Landorl06 Dec 2016 6:29 p.m. PST

It's a great game and my favorite for squad to platoon level games.

I wish there was an updated 2nd edition which incorporated all of the rules from the supplements and streamlined it a bit.

It is a game with a good level of detail, but not too detailed to be unplayable.

chuck05 Fezian06 Dec 2016 6:41 p.m. PST

Yes but not for a while.

m4jumbo06 Dec 2016 6:58 p.m. PST

Yes it still makes it into the game rotation every so often.

Yes

SBminisguy06 Dec 2016 7:17 p.m. PST

Loved it, moved on to NUTS though.

Achtung Minen06 Dec 2016 7:47 p.m. PST

I do like Nuts! as well, but lately I've been noticing something funny about it. Almost all of the action revolves around a "I shoot at you, you duck back… you shoot at me, I duck back" sequence (if the target is not straight out killed, of course). The result is a funny "hokey-pokey" effect as models yo-yo in and out of the firefight repeatedly ("you put your right leg in, you take your right leg out…"). Am I playing it wrong?

Personal logo gamertom Supporting Member of TMP06 Dec 2016 8:31 p.m. PST

Yes – still play it with my best gaming bud. Aspects of it drive me crazy for being overly complicated for little gain and I really dislike the chart where if you score a hit, the amount of damage done depends upon the terrain the target is in (i.e., it's pretty difficult to kill someone in a bunker or stone building, even if they are actively shooting at you and thus are somewhat exposed, and even though the chance of hitting them in the first place is no different from the chance of hitting them standing in the open – intuitively one would think it would be the other way around, harder to hit, but comparable damage). Compared to ASL, the rules are a breeze (and frustrating to interpret at times).

Is it still available?

Syr Hobbs prints them on demand, or so their website says.

Russ Lockwood06 Dec 2016 8:46 p.m. PST

Long time ago, maybe in the 1990s when they were relatively new.

21eRegt06 Dec 2016 10:19 p.m. PST

Not any more. Lot of money invested in the rules and supplements, but alas a cumbersome system.

Wargamer Blue07 Dec 2016 3:53 a.m. PST

not any more

alex75707 Dec 2016 4:24 a.m. PST

I loved these rules when they first came out, but after a while they started to get tedious…

Russian SMG Squad (SMG – ROF of 3) shooting at some Germans in a Stone Building.

First action – Picks up 30 D20, hits with 24 of those shots, then roll 24 d20 to determine that noe of the SMG shots really have a chance to effect someone in a stone building.

Second action – lets do that again! Picks up 30 D20…

ashauace697007 Dec 2016 7:06 a.m. PST

Yes,our gang does almost weekly when we arent doing BvsB or some of our home rules
Used for mostly 28mm and the occasional 20s
Have used most of the rules and slightly modified some
There is a rather large tome on the net that addresses alot of the games rules ,clarifies a bunch.
We also do fairly bigger games as we get 5-7 players
We have activation cards made up to move more tgan one unit fir instance,squad1/2 and tthe 222

All depends on circumstances like the relative moral levels of the combatants (REP), is one side firing a weapon with a higher Outgunned Rating (like an MG-42), etc. Get fired on by that and yer gonna Duck Back!

Watch Band of Brothers and see how many times they "Duck Back" instead of staying up and duking it out.

Most of the time, all things being equal all you have to do is get a "Pass 1d6" result to at least snap fire in response, but on your next action you may want to move to a better position. Are you playing NUTS! Final Version or an earlier version?

Who asked this joker07 Dec 2016 10:09 a.m. PST

Whatever happened to those "cartoony" figures they produced? I rather liked them.

SBminisguy07 Dec 2016 10:29 a.m. PST

That was Jim Bland's work, co-creator of BGWW2. He's still producing figures, really nice ones, at Victory Force Miniatures:

victoryforce.com

Nice sculpts with a lot of character, but not as cartoony as the older BGWW2 figures. Most of my US and German figures are from him, while most of my Soviets are pre-Warlord Bolt Action figures.

DeRuyter07 Dec 2016 11:47 a.m. PST

Have the rules. Have not played in years. Now using Chain of Command or Bolt Action. I believe someone ran a game BGWWII game at Fall-In this year.

We used to play the Pacific supplement using a ref and double blind movement. Worked well for small infantry encounters. I played in a large armor battle once and that got a bit complex and tedious. Still loved the scenario where the Japanese have to assault 3 Stuarts bogged down on the beach!

Landorl07 Dec 2016 1:11 p.m. PST

I played an all armor battle before, and it was a lot of fun.

Achtung Minen07 Dec 2016 6:13 p.m. PST

@SBminisguy, I have tried all the versions (one through three).

@alex757, that's why I don't play more than a squad plus a vehicle/weapons team per side. I have a low threshold for buckets of dice!

SBminisguy07 Dec 2016 9:04 p.m. PST

Well, Achtung Minen, if you get stuck you should ask on the Two Hour Wargames Forum -- you'll usually get a pretty quick answer:

In regards to the cartoony castings by battlefront, I have two unopened box sets and a bunch of loose guys that I got at a cob sale along with the rules and terrain. I quickly sold most of the terrain.
