Hi, I am not sure what country you are in, but in the USA you should contact a company called Smooth On. They sell the best casting material. You can also try a vaccum chamber to remove air bubbles before pouring. Another option would be to do a high pour. Put your mold on the floor, stand 8 feet above and slowly pour the resin into the mold. The slow high pouring gives the air bubbles a chance to break down before entering the mold. High pouring takes some practice. Smooth On has a great customer service and might have other ideas. Matthew |

For stone walls, I get some clear window caulking and lay a bead down on wax paper, then cover it in stones from outside.Wait twelve hours and then peel it off the wax paper. The wall will rest nicely over any terrain, rolling hills and all. |

Cheers Matthew Smooth cast is what I'm using at the moment, seems quite good less bubbles than the first brand I tried. Biggest problem is the postage cost as I'm in New Zealand. Have been looking into a pressure tanks but unsure if I'll be casting enough stuff to justify the outlay |

If you are in New Zealand, give the folks at WETA workshop a call. Tell them what you are doing and if they might be able to help you out by selling you some product. Or maybe allow you to jump on their next order. I'm not sure if it is smooth on, but it has to,be close. And they order a lot of product each month. You have one of the best effects companied for model making practically in your back yard. It's worth a friendly try. I would be shocked to find out that they could not help you out. You might even get a chance to use their pressure pots on a weekend if they are not too busy on a production. If they can't help, ask if they might know of someplace local to contact. It's been 25 years since I worked in the effect industry but folks always seemed to be helpful. They would rather sell excess product than toss it out due to shelf life. Let me know how you get on, I really hope they can be of help. Matthew |
