"Up to eight ships of NATO's member-countries were accompanying the Russian naval group on its way to the Mediterranean, but not violations of international laws of the sea occurred in the process, the Russian Navy's Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Vladimir Korolyov, said on Monday.

"This is the first time that we use our naval aircraft in combat conditions since the moment the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser was built. Naturally, this draws attention, first and foremost from the NATO countries. Up to eight ships were accompanying us when we reached the area of Britain. But there were no violations of international laws of the sea," Korolyov said told the Rossiya-24 television news channel…"

They're learning, and Russians are willing to take losses while they learn.

'Up to eight ships were accompanying us when we reached the area of Britain.' is quite important. All the talk about the UK not having enough ships to protect itself or NATO countries not doing their job… this type of operation shows that this kind of cooperation is taking place and that the system is generally working.

Supposedly, they claim to have chased away a Dutch submarine too, that was shadowing them.

Carrier operations bring mishaps and accidents as a normal course of operations, we suffer them too. You guys make it sound like the Russians just started carrier operations a few days ago.

Well, they do have only one carrier, it rarely gets deployed, we even more rarely hear/see about ops from it, and yet in just a couple of weeks two jets have crashed into the sea, despite them not even attempting to takeoff from, or land on it most of the time.

We've lost nine hornets in 6 months and we fly all the time. Just sayin'…dangerous business. Just because you rarely hear about ops from the carrier doesn't mean they aren't flying, they operate regularly apart from refits. It also seems they are commencing a conversion from SU33s to Mig29ks as the standard carrier fighter.

Nothing to see here (that hasn't already been seen), folks:
