Here's what I did, I imagineered using existing collections for a new time period.

The story is told by briefly captioned photos and a quote from Donald Featherstone here: link

What would you do?
What have you done when attacked by illness?

Respectfully,
Bill P.

The Land of Counterpane
by Robert Louis Stevenson

When I was sick and lay a-bed,
I had two pillows at my head,
And all my toys beside me lay,
To keep me happy all the day.

And sometimes for an hour or so
I watched my leaden soldiers go,
With different uniforms and drills,
Among the bed-clothes, through the hills;

And sometimes sent my ships in fleets
All up and down among the sheets;
Or brought my trees and houses out,
And planted cities all about.

I was the giant great and still
That sits upon the pillow-hill,
And sees before him, dale and plain,
The pleasant land of counterpane.

Get well soon.

AICUSV, The Land of Counterpane. I forgot about it till you provided it above. Thank you. A fond memory. I read it to my wife who liked it too.

My family's association with toy soldiers goes back to 1914. I'm a third generation. Counterpane has always had a special place in our family.

Glad your feeling better.

ge2002Bill:
It goes without saying that I am glad your condition improves however, I would be remiss if I did not admit to you that my good wishes are tainted with some degree of pure selfishness as I am eagerly anticipating the further adventures of that intrepid adventurer and military madcap, General Pettygree.

AICVU: I had not seen The Land of Counterpane before.

Thanks to both of you, John Miller
