GW has just put up the new Lake-town plastic modular house kit for pre-order, and it's a fantastic value!

– $115 USD for three-pack link

This detailed scenery piece allows you to build a Lake-town house. The Lake-town House features a great deal of modularity, meaning multiple kits can be easily converted to create your own Lake-town settlement. The house itself features reversible gable ends, and the kit includes a ton of extras:

- 1 rowing boat with separate oars;
- 2 barrels;
- 2 fish baskets;
- 1 glass float;
- 3 lanterns;
- 1 hanging sign board;
- 1 outhouse, including seat and door;
- 1 loading hook;
- 3 long walkways and 1 short walkway.

Hmmm….those scream Innsmouth to me, too. That is a pretty decent price.

At $40 USD a pop they are actually cheaper than other companies, as you get the house, jetties, boat, oathouse, and other fun bits.

I was about to buy the Ziterdes lake-town buildings, but the Ziterdes ones are 29.99 euro each, plus 11.49 euro for a Jetty and 7.99 euro for a boat.

There's some lower quality MDF buildings out there that are cheaper but once you add on buying boats and jetties from Ainsty or other companies, GW's release is still cheaper and looks great. The walls have designs on both sides, too, so you can make a bunch of different looking houses.

My sole criterion for judging things like like this is if they can be used in the AWI, particularly Lexington Concord.
Hmmmmm…..
If I squint…..
Maybe.

Just sold out in USA and in UK!

Those do look fantastic. I don't have any use for them at the moment but the piers beat the ones I have now into the ground.

The houses seem a bit on the small side compared with other brands, but – suprisingly to me – the price seems acceptable if you consider the whole kit.

One for now, and if it looks good, more to follow…

I've already got a huge medieval town made from modified porcelain houses, but if I didn't these would be on the list. What a fantastic little kit with tons of gaming uses and a suprisingly good value from GW also.

Say what you will about G-Dub, you know the kit is probably going to be really well detailed, go together very easily and with none of the telltale block corners and notches of MDF kits.

Also, all those walkways really get me thinking of Mordheim.

One shortcoming I do see here. Every house is going to have the same jacket and pot hanging on the outside wall unless you cut them off and cover it over. Those really should have been extra bits on another sprue. Not the end of the world, but defintiely a missed opportunity.

With all those outhouses directly over the water, that has got to be one heck of an unpleasant lake. Swim at your own risk.

Judge Doug04 Dec 2016 9:34 a.m. PST

@ordinarybass well, 50% will, as the walls are double sided for variety.

Deeman04 Dec 2016 9:18 p.m. PST

Are these direct only?

ordinarybass05 Dec 2016 1:19 p.m. PST

Judge,
Are all the walls double-sided, or just the gable ends? I did a search but wasn't able to find any pictures of the backsides of the sprues. If all the walls are doublesided then it's still a small missed opportunity, but not really a big deal.

Just seems wierd overall, as they already have a separate basket bit and hanging jackets would be a very nice detail bit if it were separate. Still a great looking kit either way.

Judge Doug06 Dec 2016 8:11 a.m. PST

@ordinarybass It's the gable-ends at the very least. You can see the different designs by looking at the sprue and looking at how the three sample houses are constructed.

I think those are hanging nets, not jackets. And while I agree I also can see the sprue is pretty chock full of extra bits – like a glass float is such a nice touch!

Judge Doug06 Dec 2016 8:11 a.m. PST

@Deeman according to the website they have the Direct Only listed on them for now

They look very good indeed. Well done GW!

Got the shipping notice for my three-pack! People on the Great British Hobbit League facebook group are already posting pics of their assembled kits, so jealous.

Xintao14 Dec 2016 12:35 p.m. PST

Goddamnit, mine still says pending on the GW's website
