I can't seem to find any of the lovely, old Paul Hicks sculpts that made Bolt-Action Miniatures famous… did Warlord drop these from their store? And what has happened to good Mr. Hicks?

A very ggood question.

I haven't seen any of those first Bolt Action sculpts anywhere so I would guess they are sadly defunct. Mr. Hicks has done a TON of models for Brigade Games in their WW II Pacific range, but the last thing I saw him do were some test sculpts of some 20mm WW II British that were superb. Can't remember the manufacturer of those, though.

I'm pretty sure Mr Hicks did a lot of sculpting for Empress miniatures

Also Ebor.

I suspect they have been replaced by 'own sculpts'

I did query the availability of the old BEF range. Sadly, they are no longer available. Shame as they look far better than the new range… :(

Unfortunately, the lovely old BAM figures now seem to be unavailable and I am not so keen on the new stuff.

Paul is still doing plenty of work, I saw some lovely KGL Light infantry he has done for Brigade games just a few days ago.

Anyone know the reason for "replacing" the old ones with new? I agree, the old ones looked far better. It's hard to top one of the best sculptors in the business of course.

I have all the old SS range. Far superior to the replacement sculpts. Although the new vehicles are a lot better than the old BAM versions with their ugly moulded on bases.

Achtung-- I would say that it was because the old line were much smaller sculpts than pretty much everything else on the market, although it was indeed very nice.

I am grateful that I ordered my original Bolt Action Miniatures US Paratroopers when I did. I am not impressed with the new plastic ones, or any model with the head swap system.
