Hi TMP, Just found out that there was a 3D Printing board so time to show a bit of my stuff here. I mainly deal with airplanes in 1/285, although I have some incursions in other scales (mainly 1/200 and 1/600/700) and some odd stuff as Mechs. The material of choice for the majority of my models is White Strong and Flexible, it does not have the best surface finish in earth but is relatively cheap. I have been trying to find a good treatment to get a better surface finish and I had quite a bit of sucess treating the WSF with 3 coats of Gel Nail polish base coat. The two Curtiss floatplanes were treated with the base coat and their surface is considerably smoother. I use this particular brand, other may work as well just look at the ingredients as enamels will melt WSF. link So now some samples of my work :) A2D Skyshark US Army Vietnam scheme
A2D Skyshark US Navy
Curtiss SO3C Seamew
Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk
Northrop N-102 Fang
Metallics do not love WSF…. Link to the main shop shapeways.com/shops/namw Hope you like them! |

Great models and some rare planes. I am a 1/600 gamer. Will you convert your 1/285s to 1/600? |

Thanks for the tips! I have two WW I models from Shapeways. I have one in my painting queue, at around 70% finished. Shapeways offers some rare, and interesting plane models. The other great thing, is that they are sooo light-weight! We mount our planes on 1/4" dowels, with clips, which allow us to show the plane's elevation level on the marked stick. We can bank them, for turns, tip them up/down, as needed, per Red Baron rules we use. One of the Shapeways planes is an Ilya Muramets Russian heavy bomber: had a crew of up to 12 men on board! It is HUGE. To mount a metal model of this plane, in 1/144 scale, on a stick, would require a 1"-thick dowel!!! For the Shapeways plane, the standard stick will suffice! The Shapeways model airplanes are superb for use in gaming, due to their weight. They're also wonderful in that designers can produce them without a huge investment in molds, and casting runs which might sell only a few models… These POD models are superb! Cheers! |

I just took advantage of their sale to place an order for 24 1/144 WW1 aircraft. Looking forward to working with them. |

Those look really great! Thanks for sharing your photos and tips. I'd love to see a nice 1/600th B-58 Hustler produced by you. The one available on Shapeways currently is a sad caricature of the real jet bomber. |

Thanks for the compliments, Mako, I love the Hustler myself since I reduced to pieces the one my father built when I was a child…, It is a really nice aircraft, I will add it to my neverending potential future models list. |
