Hi guys Some pics of 15mm AB French Hussards de la Mort finished on commission, I had to change the shabraque to a woollen one, uniform was very similar to Prussian deaths head hussars, the skull and crossbones on the sleeves should be a little smaller, but there is a limit to my talent, all comments welcome. dan.dunbar@hotmail.com More pics here link

So what if you can paint a skull and crossed bones onto the sleeve of a 15/18mm figure………? Am I impressed.? Oh yes. What a striking uniform, for a "simple" colour scheme. Black and white should be so easy….but they ain't. I suspect your talent is a lot less limited than you suggest |

These are really nice. There are two things that stand out to me Bay horses – how do you get that tone ? Faces – how do you get the highlights/shading to look so good ? John |

The bay horses are painted with GW dark skin, I make a couple slight variations by adding either black or Vallejo leather which makes it lighter and more ginger. My standard skin tone is GW dwarf skin (it's called something else now, I'm not sure what though) with some white added, then a Vallejo dark brown ink wash and a highlight with a lighter version of the dwarf flesh/white mix. |

Dan, they look great and I thought of this when the early Prussian Hussars first came out by AB years ago. I have painted the Foundry version of this unit many years ago and it is a unique looking unit for a French Army of the Revolution. Not trying to steal your thunder but here are some images of the Foundry figures [URL=http://s1170.photobucket.com/user/VonBlucher_John/media/DSC07221.jpg.html]

Both sets of figures show what can be achieved with "simple" black and white, accepting that both are far from simple in practice! |

Those are nice Vonblucher, good job. |

Dan, These were painted back in the 90's and probably the last 28mm figures I painted. I love what you did to create your version with AB's and much harder to recreate the skulls in 18mm. Something I would have a difficult time with today. |

It's funny, the sculpting style on those foundry figs is very similar to AB sculpting, they almost look like ABs. |
