I intend to paint the 2nd New Hampshire Regiment (a Great Grandfather fought in this unit) as my first unit for the AWI. When looking at pictures of the uniform it looks like their coats are a lighter blue than most of the other continental regiments.

What color paint would suit this regiment?

Thank You for your help.

Something close to a Prussian Dragoon Blue.

This is my 2nd NH. You may want to add a few in hunting shirts and mix in some civilian clothes. As far as I know this is the uniform colors the NH Legislature choose.

I did a light blue with red lapels, cuffs and turnbacks.

Rallynow, that couldn't possibly be the right color. It has to be at least 1/16th lighter. Or is that 1/16th darker? Or is 1/64th? Never mind that, it couldn't possibly be right. Could it? Well, yes, it could. Or it could not.

Paint to the best of your ability and understanding and then put the figures in a table fight – where no one really much cares as long as it advances and meets the enemy. And runs. Or stays. Or gets in a melee.

EMW,

It is just my interpretation based on the available evidence which I have access to. The OP asked and I responded.

I'm planning to do that unit with Americana Wedgewood Blue, a craft paint. It's not as dark as a dark blue I would use for Continentals, artillerists, Hessians etc.
It's more of a greyish blue.
I tried a few figures with sky blue etc but they just looked too garish. Wedgewood Blue actually looks like a faded cloth color.
