What base size requirements does your intended rules set need?

My Pendraken are singly based on magnetic 10mm squares and an infantry unit is typically 24 figures strong in 2 ranks on a sabot base.

Can't say for AWI but the Pendraken figures from the various ranges I have painted have been quite varied. Haven't painted any from the classic black powder & close order eras though so difficult to help I'm afraid.

Why not go on the Pendraken forums and ask – you should get a very precise answer and quite quickly too, I'd guess.

Are Old Glory 5 to and inch or to 20mm ? 4mm per figure doesn't sound anywhere near enough – Baccus 6mm are 4 per 20mm !!

Yes,the OG AWI strips are about 1 inch. Since the bases are already "terrained" to a certain extent, and I'm using Shako (for now),which calls for three bases of approximately that frontage for a battalion,I double-ranked the strips, glued to steel paper, the same size as the base's footprint--about 1"X1/2". Not for everyone, perhaps, but it certainly takes up less space. I have some Pendrakens,to fill in missing figures--British Lights marching, for instance--but have not gotten to basing them yet. I anticipate some fiddly work getting them based to match the OG's--30,double-ranked,on a 3-inch frontage--but fortunately, won't need to do this with more than a few units.

Of course, if I decide to do Saratoga, with correct British uniforms, that will be another matter. I beg Russ Dunaway, every chance I get,to get back to the tens, and add figures for AWI. And SYW!

If you do anything like what I describe, you might find it necessary to clip some bases on the Pendrakens,to make them fit. I did do some "dry" basing tests, and it looks like that should work. Of course, a lot of people cut the OG bases apart, but that seems to me to be defeating the purpose of the strips--smaller space, and greatly increased ease of painting and mounting. In that case, why not just go with all Pendraken to start with?

A TMP seach for "AWI 10mm" turned up 78 threads. There should be some helpful info in there somewhere.

I've just measured some AWI figures and you can squeeze 4 figures on a 1" frontage, so around 6/7mm per figure.

Well, you can't get much more authoritative than that.

Although I'm still going to clip bases and try to get 5 in!

For 7YW I used 4 figs, 2 ranks on a 20mm square
For ACW I use 8 figs, 2 ranks on a 30mm square
For LoA I use up to 10 figures on a 40x30mm base (but it does make for large 52 figure units lol)
