Once upon a time in a mythical era known as the 1990s, there was a young American gamer who fell in love with a British space combat game. He enjoyed the game so much that he decided to use this new-fangled Internet contraption to spread the word about it, sharing new rules and resources with players around the world.

Sadly, he got distracted by real life concerns, other projects, and he lost the password to his old site. So he let it go fallow for many years without an update. Then, one Autumn day, he was feeling sentimental and started to re-read the game rules he used to love so much and remembered his old site and how it was high time to resurrect it for a new era. So he went to work to move as much of his old site to a new weblog format.

The Unofficial Full Thrust WWW Page is dead!

Long live The Unofficial Full Thrust Blog!

Log on today! (Pardon our dust. We're still in the middle of our refit.)

Sounds great.

I look forward to poking around on your site.

Haven't played a game of Full Thrust in a decade, or so, I suspect. Perhaps this might get me to change that, since I used to play regularly with my son when he was a young tot.

May have to give that another go again, over the holidays.

Played a few games of this back in the 90's as well but had completely forgot about it until I saw your post. Going to scoot over to the blog now.
You just know I'm going to have to buy some rules and miniatures now!!!

Great stuff, I have been adding various models to my original fleets from the 90's, now my other offspring have reached non-mashing age I may play a few games…get the dice out!!

Buckeye AKA Darryl28 Nov 2016 4:41 a.m. PST

Played it a few times when it first came out. Liked the system, but man there was a lot of die rolling for systems checks!

The blog looks good, I'll stop by from time to time!

I look forward to giving your blog a good look when I don't have a coat on as I head for the door… ;->=

Still my favorite, I play all too seldom.

When I do, of course, others walk by, 'oh, yeah, Full Thrust, we've GOT to play again…'

;->= I never see it happen.

Do investigate new versions and tell us what you think!

Crickies, Mark, didn't make the connection until I saw the note on the old newslist!

Pleased to have you back!

Welcome back :)

Lovely stuff! Great to see FT getting some more support, even if in the form of an old site rising zombie-like from the past.

Zombie Thrust… there's an idea…

I especially like the quick games/scenarios with escort sized vessels, and little patrol/missile boats that go "pop" when you hit them a few times.

One of the most interesting battles we had was with missile boats and space-capable fighters launched from a planet, to defend against escort-sized vessels coming in to neutralize and soften up the planet for a major orbital assault.

Use one of those big, swirly dime-store (now dollar store+), bouncy balls as the planet, which looked stunning relative to the smaller ships and fighters.

Need to run that one again, and perhaps a planetary bombardment, followed up by an orbital assault landing, and then another scenario fighting it out on the planet's surface.

You mean you saved the notes? :)

billclo30 Nov 2016 3:38 a.m. PST

Mako11, what rules did you develop that would allow you to do the planetary bombardment and assault? Reason I ask is that Jim Klein and I are working on rules for planetary bombardment for an upcoming Full Thrust fleet book.

Any interest in trying out some beta rules or at least looking them over to see if they make sense? :)

Man will speak for himself, but he doesn't sound like he was doing the bombardment, just the interception…

Are you doing more than the Ortilery rules from FT?

Did I ever tell you about the orbit campaign rules I tried to work out? Planetary skin peeled like an orange, and you had limited fire on the section that faced you.

I'd like to hear what you do come up with, and I think you still have my mail addie. ;->=

Doug, I'll drop you a line and let you take a look at what is being worked on.

Mako1101 Dec 2016 3:44 a.m. PST

I just used the old FT1 and FT2 books I had at the time, and planned on putting major weapons (heavy beams) on the planet with 90 or 120 degree firing arcs out from the surface. Basically, pretty much like a large space station that can't be destroyed (you can kill the weapons and fire controls/sensors, but not the planet).

We didn't have planet busters, since the attacker(s) wanted to take possession of it.

Can't recall if we actually used those or not for the defense phase, but we didn't get to the bombardment phase.

IIRC, we had armor, and/or shielding for them, just like for a capital ship.

Ships have to enter orbit to conduct bombardments, assuming they survive the fighters and missile boats. May be geosynchronous or fast moving around the planet, as desired.

Planetary beams can only hit ships in orbit.

Of course, if desired, you could put big missiles or rockets on the surface to attack vessels further away than orbit, but really, it makes more sense to install those in orbital defense satellites/bases, instead, due to the gravity well, unless you want to hide them until use from attackers on the planet's surface, or under the sea.

We also had a nearby asteroid field near the planet (no moons), for the spacefighters and missile boats to hide out in, as well as being able to launch from the planet's surface.

Can't recall on the Ortillery. Again, probably would have just used the rules pretty much as is, with perhaps a few tweaks, like making targets on the surface hidden at first, until they fire or are detected by sensors. Perhaps a defense bonus for the batteries on the planet, due to atmosphere, camo., etc..

Obviously, simple rules like in the books for for orbiting, defining geo., and/or non-geo. orbiting speeds, etc..

I'd be interested in seeing what you have in the works too, Bill.

I've said it elsewhere, there is no such thing as too much starship art/mini pics! :)

Hey Mutant Q,

Thanks for all your work to make a great Full thrust site in the first place and now your efforts to "modernize" it! Hip, Hip, Hooray! I remember it well. So I hope you don't mind me putting in a plug for our FT campaign about to start in my neck of the woods. The Full thrust player Universe is far flung and I think whatever we can do to bring players closer together is a good thing.

Just to let everyone know there is a Full Thrust campaign game about to start in the Southland (north of Los Angeles) and I would like to invite anyone interested in participating, either in a full-time, part-time, or even just one game, to join us for some good times. The campaign is likely to stretch out for the next 10 to 12 months, depending on how many games and moves we can do each month.

Participation is open to gamers who have extensive knowledge of Full Thrust as well as those who perhaps just want to try it once! We can accommodate you and your fleet as well as provide everything including instruction to those trying it for the first time!

We are still in the development / organizational period but hope to launch the "Official" campaign towards the end of January 2016. Until then we will be doing test / learning games, but "new" players can get in anytime and will be given a "sub-command" to run.

More details, Battle Reports, as well as progress reports on the campaign can be found on my website HistoricalHobbies.com . To make following along easier please subscribe to the site and get notification of new reports sent to you! (Please use your real name and email or I or the program may delete you as a spammer!)

Please get a hold of me for more details. Bill W vonkluge@ca.rr.com
