The greatest American singer. My nominee (and I may add more) is "One for my Baby". YouTube link When I was a callow youth, he was just another guy on the radio. If I bothered to listen to "those" channels. I missed a lot. Anyway, he is my go to voice to sing in the shower, or while driving. I can hit some of the notes, but…. I got reintroduced to Frank through Mark Steyn's site or blog or whatever. He greatly added to my appreciation. For one thing I had never realized how vital the piano was to that song. But it was always there. I just never knew it. One of those First Time I Heard It wonders. steynonline.com |

I've got you under my skin. I wasn't a fan until I learned ballroom dancing, discovered I liked fox trot. And if you do foxtrot, the man is Frank. Funny, my mom was one of the bobbysoxers who screamed for him. Young kids hear Frank and say, "that's my parents' music". Wrong. That's MY parents' music. I grew up on Jimi Hendrix. |

Here is "A Very Good year", from the recording studio. vimeo.com/56268157 It always amazes me that some electro rock "artists" would spend months in the studio to make an album. Sinatra could knock off an album of superior music in an afternoon. And here is Mark Steyn on the same song. link One thing I always loved about this song is that the singer and arrangement are very much partners. The music is not there to remind the singer to stay in tune. |

I'm with Winston on "One for My Baby". "The Way You Look Tonight" is a close second, it was my Dad's favorite Sinatra song. |
