Basic question, are the frames in the Frostgrave soldiers box suitable to be made up into enough believable figures for a Medieval peasants retinue for Lion Rampant? Or is it best to wait for what I think is the next box due to be released that contains from what I've seen on here figures that might do for Robin of Sherwood type outlaws? |

Here is a sprue shot from the Beasts of War website:
Personally I tend to find them a bit too much on the fantasy side, but your mileage may wary – especially depending on how much converting you are willing to do. They wear no visible armour, other than the helmets on some of the heads, and there is plenty of sacks and other accessories, which might help in giving a peasant look. However, most of the weapons don't really have a peasant feeling. |

Northstar makes a set of metal add-on pieces to give the Frostgrave soldiers a Sherwood Forest look. It includes extra bows, staffs, bags, etc. would work well as peasants, I think. |

Ivan is probably referring to the "Forest Outlaws" conversion set: link |

Thanks, although I had seen the shots of the sprue, and the picture of the outlaws, I hadn't put 2+2 together in my mind and realised you could make the outlaws from the soldiers set. With some slight trimming and the application of some green stuff I would think those swords could be easily transformed into hefty clubs. I think I'll give these a stab sometime. Cheers all. |

I would think the GB Dark Age warriors plastic set might be better for medieval peasants. |

At one point per unit, if composed entirely of serfs a standard 24 point retinue will require… 288 figures! Even if you reduce the numbers with archer and yeoman units you'll still need a lot of figures, so to keep the cost down you should seriously consider buying one each of the Old Glory metal Revolting Peasants packs, along with the Jacquerie pack from the HYW range (more peasant variants). I'm sure this option will cost less than the Frostgrave plastics, and you won't have to do any assembly. |

Thanks Henry Martini, but the OG figures are only 25mm and are going to look a bit dwarfish alongside Fireforge and Curteys 28mm I think. |

I would also like to add that I was only looking to add one unit of smelly peasant types to my retinue, not an entire retinue made up of same as per Henry Martinis post! I have used a retinue with a borrowed unit of serfs in it before, and if used cunningly against an unwary opponent who hasn't bothered to study the terrain (and the rules) they can be pretty devastating. My unit lay in wait all stargazy and innocent like in a muddy field surrounded by hedges down a narrow hedge lined lane lane. My opponent recklessly charged his mounted knights down the lane and into the muddy field where they were unhorsed, dragged into the mud and slaughtered with wilful abandon. I won't catch him out again as he apparently still suffers from flashbacks, but there may be others out there who might fall into the trap. |

Well, in the OP you did type '… for a Medieval peasants retinue…' I don't know where this idea that I see regularly trotted out on TMP that OG figures are true 25mm comes from; in fact they're true 28mm. The Fireforge medievals should, as is the case with so many so-called 28mm figures, be more accurately described as 30mm – so there's really only half a head in height between the two brands. I have no qualms mixing 28mm and 30mm, and it's probably historically, or at least aesthetically, justifiable that your well-fed knights and professional soldiers be a touch taller than your scrawny, undernourished peasants. |

I have the OG Eastern Revolting Peasants and they fit in nicely with more "modern" made 28s. |

My apologies HM yes I meant a unit as part of a retinue. I tend to call all units 'retinues' unfortunately, bad habit of mine. |
