I'm looking for info on the (average) Kiloton and Megaton of Tactical Nuclear Weapons used by army's during the cold war period. Mainly Artillery, M.R.L. and Aircraft. Examples: I have info that: M-29 Davy Crockett, 1 KT MGM-52 Lance, 100 KT MGM-31A Pershing, 400 KT 2S3 152mm Howitzer, 2 KT But there were a lot of other Artillery, M.R.L. and Aircraft that could use Nukes even if they were low level. I would be happy just to find a web site that would have the info on Kiloton and Megaton of Tactical Nuclear Weapons used. |

Wikipedia has a page, IIRC, on various nuclear warheads and types. Just try entering in some of the above, and "wiki", or "Wikipedia". Of course, those nice men and women from the NSA, or other agencies might wonder what you're up to, but given the renewed interest in the Cold War, I suspect they've got a lot of people to track now. |

Don't forget the nuclear grenade, first brought to light in Mad Magazine. Unfortunately, the blast radius was much larger than the distance the average soldier could throw a grenade. Wish I could find the illustration for you. |

HI there, You may also want to check the Federation of Atomic Scientists website, WWW.fas.org for more info. Depending on how deep down the dusty, crusty cobweb filled missile silo you wish to go there is also the fabulous book, "US Nuclear Weapons, the Secret History" by Chuck Hansen. It's update can be fopund at uscoldwar.com, but be prepared to spend a bit. Believe me though, if you have an interest in the subject beyond gaming it will be worth it. Very technical, but also informative. |

I had mentioned before, I was "selected" for an additional duty as an Atomic Demolitions Missions Officer. As a 1LT in the 101. The devices were "backpack" nucs. Came in two types. IIRC, SADM – Small Atomic Demolition Munitions and MADM – Medium Atomic Demolitions Munitions. I forget the Yields. About the size of a basketball and the other a little larger (?). The SADM/MADM would be emplaced literally be hand. A mixed unit would be inserted to the location. Consisting of : 1 Inf Plt – For 360 security, + the ADMO(me !) with Satcom to the POTUS/Pentagon 1 CE ADM Section – @ 3+ CE ADM Specialists to emplace and "set up" the ADM 1 SF A-Team – Just incase things went bad. To insure the denotation, etc., happened. I was never told why they were there. I'm just surmising. Once emplaced, Timer(s) set, etc., we'd exfil to a pick up location … hopefully … |

I am mainly looking for Tactic weapons at the Artillery / Fighter Bomber level. for a set of rules I have been working on since around 1993. I have the old chart from the old TRACTICS rules that has the four zones of destruction T = Total Casualties. M = Moderate Casualties. C = Light Casualties. D = Dazzle Casualties. And the range of the damage. Just trying to fine tune them for what I am putting together. But looking for the KT or MT of different rounds from the different weapon systems used by the major factions (NATO/WARSAW PACT) during the Cold War Period. |

I think you're looking for the yields of a B61 nuclear bomb… link Wiki says somewhere between 0.3kt up to 340kt, depending on Mod# and settings. |
