My brother and I are thinking of doing a Diadochi campaign. I own several rule-sets, but have only played one of them (sad, I know). Which do you think would be a good fit? Armati Commands and Colors: Ancients (played) DBA Tactica WAB I am open to other rule suggestions, too. As you can tell I'm not adverse to buying another rule-set I'll never use! :D |

Armati II is good at highlighting the differences in the Succor armies and would be my choice. |

I am very enthusiastic about gaming in this period; with its pikes, its elephants and exotic bright colours. I have re-fought Raphia many times, and am gearing up to fight Ipsos in the spring.
link I recently published the Successor lists for my "To the Strongest!" rules and you can download them from here for free:- link If you want a campaign background, you could do a whole lot worse than use the Avalon Hill "Successors" board game (Which I believe has been reprinted). Aside from blowing my own trumpet, of the sets you mention, I have only personally played Command and Colors- they would do a fine job. Jeff Jonas has some super WAB material on the Successor Wars here: link |

I would second Big Red Bat's 'To the Strongest". Rules for this period. The fact that they are named after Alexander's supposed final words when asked who he left the kingdom to, should indicate their suitability for the wars of his successors! That said, they are quick to pick up, fun to play, and surprisingly subtle. Mollinary |

I would highly recommend Impetus. Each game is unique to itself even when between the two same opponents. I put on Magnesia a few years back at Cold Wars using Impetus. 1500+ 28mm figures. 8 players, 7 new to the game and we played the battle to completion in under 4 hours.

There is also Scutarii from lulu.com/spotlight/HRGWORLDS which is having a sale this weekend. Raphia
linkand linkand though not a successor battle there is also Asculum linkThe rules allow different ratings of morale and combat ability. Games usually last about four hours even with over 100 units and one player per side. It is also possible for a high quality army such as Alexander's to defeat a much greater number of lesser quality troops such as the battle of Hydaspes. |

I decided to order To the Strongest because it might be easier to use as a wargame recruiting tool. |

Another vote for To the Strongest here. Having had the good fortune to refuge Raphia using Simon's rules and fantastic collection of miniatures, I have to say it seemed to handle things very well and is a favourite at my local club. |
