How sturdy are the models? The bayonets seem very slim and I am afraid that they will break very easy. How is your experience? (Same problems with the new Union Infantry sets? If there are any problems!)

I have found the bayonets very liable to breakage when used for gaming

I made mention of the same worry on the Perry Facebook site. They dismissed the concern saying that repair was easy. Not the answer I was hoping for.

I have said this frequently, but I think plastics designers are taking advantage of the technology to make very slim parts that will not stand up to gaming. I wish that they would make the exaggerated designs produced in metal in the cheaper plastic….

Might it be worth giving your bayonets – including the join at the rifle muzzle – a thick coat of glue prior to painting?

I have the Sudan Brits and while the bayonets are realistically thin they seem sturdy enough. If your gaming group is comprised of ham-fisted Ogres you may be disappointed but I'm quite please with the models.

I have the ACW packs, zero broken bayonets. Of course I don't slam my troops around.

I only have a few Perry plastics – I use them to test out paints on. I've yet to break a bayonet and I've flicked the musket (+ Bayonet) on an AWI figure back and forth and good few times to try to replicate the effect of clumsy handling. Although it shows no signs of breaking the paint has flaked off…

Perhaps they just need basing on thicker bases and then only being handled by the base not the models.

I wonder if concerns over damage is something north american gamers are more sensitive to. Our conventions are all 'participation' oriented. The notion of a club putting on a carefully orchestrated 'demonstration' game where the models are all handled by their owners just doesn't happen here. Even our weekly games include lots of players using each others figures with varying degrees of care and attention. I am totally anal about damage, but mitigate the problem with careful modelling and basing designed to take handling.
Cheers,
Chris
