WAB is by far, has my favorite ancients rules set. Ever since our friends at GW killed it, I have been playing other rules. I have done quite a bit of Hail Caesar, which I do enjoy. I have also played KOW. Neither have the tactical flavor and the depth in armies as did WAB. Please share with me your thoughts and/or recommendations on other alternative. |

My two favorites right now: Centuria has a lot of depth and great army lists. Civitates Bellantes makes players feel that they are fighting an ancient battle. |

Been playing the WAB cousin Clash of Empires for several years now since the day of GW axe work. Same miniatures, same basing, historical sized unit and not a player's whim for the day, just a few different twists on unit movement and without the heavy character influence of WAB. |

No reason to stop playing WAB. There's 3 editions of the rule book (I prefer V1.5) and lots of supplements. They might be a bit pricey, but I've had no problem finding them either through here, on ebay, or Amazon. There's a nice facebook page for WAB as well. For myself, I still play it, but also play Basic Impetus, and Impetus. By using sabots, it's easy to use your WAB army in Impetus, and vice versa. |

AdamPH – It's a strange thing when we feel lost because a game is not supported by the manufacturer any more, but it doesn't stop the game being as good as it ever was. Part of the process is accepting that there is no need to change what you love to game. I'm still surprised myself by how much it can affect us! Might be worth having a look at a couple of Blog posts on the WAB Blog: link link And having a look at the WAB facebook group: link I spent quite a few years playing one of the supposed successors to WAB, but in the end realised that I was trying to mend something that didn't need fixing! You enjoy playing it? You have the rulebook? Just keep playing it. GW won't come round and make you sit on the naughty step… |

Follow Cerdic's advice. We still play Armati 2, which is about the same age as WAB (which we plan to play again soon) BTW, is WAB now be called W'oldhammer, of AncientHammer? |

Chess hasn't been supported by its creator for a couple of thousand years; still seems to be doing alright. |

Impetus has been a great alternative for me. |

Gripping Beast just came out with their Swordpoint rules. Looks like it's in the WAB vein. I just got my copy today. I'd add that to the mix. |

I just don't get this… Do you have a set of the rules? If so play WAB… What exactly is it that you need? |

Agree with everyone else – I still play WAB – the rules didn't mysteriously vapourise… Mike |

I'd throw my lot with Clash of Empires (CoE); if you play WAB then you'll have no problem picking it up, and it takes care of some of the rules loopholes. I also like the graded failure of morale tests and the discipline stat on the profile. |

I played WAB last thursday…still works. My 5th century Romano-British against 11th century Arabs. Great game! |
