I have read various information about the shakos used by the Dutch army in 1815. Is the following correct? - Dutch militia: British stove pipe shakos -ex-Belgian line and chasseurs/jagers: British "Belgic"shako -Dutch line: the old 1814 shako (so not the Austrian one with front and back peak). Only officers had worn these |

I can recomend Osprey ment-at-arms Wellington's Belgian allie 1815 and Wellington's Dutch Allies 1815. According through here the headgear was: Dutch Militia in British stovepipes Belgian Lines in British Belgic shako Dutich Line and Jaegers/chasseures in Austrian style shako with front and back peak. |

What Lamads67 says above also seems to conform with the illustrations in the book covering Waterloo in the old Blandford/Macmillan series on uniforms, although I would double check on the headgear of the Belgian jaegers (I think I may have seen pictures of some of them in the Belgic shako). Considering the short existence of the newly reformed Netherlands Army, I would be surprised if they achieved complete uniformity of dress. |
