Nice little video for newcomers. The Civil War Trust does a whole range of great educational stuff. Their animated descriptions of individual battles are really good. Ideal for anyone needing a quick intro to the period, or a particular battle YouTube link |

Better than some presentations I've seen, but he still overemphasizes the effective range of the rifles and totally ignores the other major factor which dictated the tactics: The slow rate of fire of the muzzle-loading rifles. |

Although when magazine rifles came in before WW1 many Countries still had men march into attack. |

As they did in 1870 only five years after finding out it didn't work. All the more stupid as the European powers had observers present in the Civil War who saw that it didn't. |

As they did in 1870 only five years after finding out it didn't work. If Prussian Generals in 1879 didn't appreciate that, Prussian tactical doctrine did. It depended on skirmish action. |
