I'm in the midst of a opening shots "Guns of August" 1914 project. Did German infantry units (battalions or regiments) carry the Reich flag or RegimentL standard in to battle. I've read they did carry standards in the early days, but which one or both? Any help is much appreciated, also any manufacturers out in there produce the colours or am I forced to do my own?

Thanks!

They carried their individual battalion/regimental flags, in a multitude of individual designs according to the state they came from, and the year of issue or raising of the unit. A great place to start is

On the Board – Flags by Geographical Area – Europe is a thread entitled. Imperial German Army Colours. It has dozens of illustrated examples taken from a famous set of cigarette cards, which should give you a very good start!

Happy hunting.
